Magazine Codes and Conventions

Conventions are the things that are typical of a specific medium. So some of
the conventions of a magazine might be:

 A Masthead (title)
 Sell-lines/Cover lines
 Strapline, tagline or slogan
 Price and Bar Code
 Cover Model or Celebrity Photo
Codes is a system of symbols, letters and words given certain meanings, used
for delivering messages requiring secrecy.
So a media text like a magazine has a message that it wants to communicate to
us (mainly, this is “buy this magazine”) and there are certain methods by which
it does this.
We might say that codes give a message or meaning to particular conventions.
