• Effective Professional Development
As a Research School, and a Teacher Development
Trust (TDT) CPD Excellence Hub, we are committed to
providing professional development that is evidence
informed.

We ensure that all of our training courses on our

professional development programme link to the
headline findings of Developing Great Teaching (TDT,
2014). This report found that “professional
development opportunities that are carefully
designed and have a strong focus on pupil outcomes
have a significant impact on students’
achievement” and went on to note that:

1. The most effective professional development

lasted at least 2 terms

2. It is important that professional development

programmes create a “rhythm” of follow-up,
consolidation and support activities

3. CPD should provide opportunities for individual

teachers both to reveal and discuss their beliefs
and engage in peer learning and support

4. Achieving a shared sense of purpose during

professional development is an important factor
for success

5. A didactic model in which facilitators simply tell

teachers what to do does not lead to positive For more information about our role as a TDT CPD
