“A more diverse workforce... will increase organisational

Activity 1.4.1 Complete the following individually or in a group (as applicable to the specific activity and Commented [AK13]: 1.4 – Access diversity policies
the assessment environment): from similar organisations and review for relevance to
own organisation
When using another organisation as a research example in relation to diversity policy, As part of your strategy in addressing stakeholders, the
following notes should be consulted:
what are some of the things that you should consider? Strategy approach:
Needs assessment covering diversity audits,
benchmarks etc.
Development and implementation process
Evaluation of progress.
Your references should include:
Leading best practice case studies
Stakeholders’ requirements and advice
Demonstrated examples of diversity policies
Benchmark examples
Research
Compliance and legislation.
What are some of the benefits of using a similar organisation as a research example? Prior to developing a diversity
policy, access diversity policies from similar organisations.
The benefits of doing this include:
Assisting you in gaining a clear understanding of best
practice in relation to diversity within the industry
The research is not complex and involves looking at
similar industry sectors, competitors or at a sample of
an industry that has diversity information available
Evidence can be varied, including items such as actual
policies or feedback from customers, your various
team members and stakeholders
Your particular research, or obtaining access on other
diversity policies from similar organisations, should
also examine the current legislation to ensure content
and practices are current and compliant.
You should then review these policies for relevance to your
own organisation to ensure that you are meeting the same
guidelines for your region and the current date, as they
apply to the other organisation. Structure and various
applications may alter but the policy and framework should
be the same.
All diversity policy relevance should be specific to the needs
of the organisation and to the employees/stakeholders
within that particular organisation. There may, of course, be
differences in gender balance, age range, cultures, race,
religion, level of language, literacy and numeracy, etc. Each
organisation would normally develop their own diversity
policy based on their circumstances, but the laws and
application of the regulations are common to all. ...
Commented [AK14]: See above

meet a performance standard, using the following measures.
Financial measures
Measures relating to customers
Measures based on views by personnel.

Financial Measures: Financial metrics, important to this level of diversity council, include cost and
benefits associated with human resources (retention, turnover, cost of recruiting and training of
new hires), growth of market share and emerging markets, return on investment for multi-cultural
marketing and advertising, and improved communications and productivity.

Design a sample survey that could be used to monitor business activities, team plans and
staff performance, to ensure a diversity policy is effectively implemented. Attach it to your
workbook.
Performance metrics include employee satisfaction and diversity that address different
dimensions of employee satisfaction: business issues, diversity, empowerment, job and
company, quality, reward and recognition, stress, workgroup and teamwork, and
workload. Assessment by experts can help determine non-quantifiable results. Proxy
measures can also be used when it is difficult or impossible to measure direct or core results.
