 Were appropriate procedures used to safeguard the rights of study

participants? Was the study subject to external review?

Yes, the rights of the study participants was safeguarded by maintaining
anonymity of participants which is done by not using personal identifiers and age
groups were used rather than specific age. Confidentiality of information was
observed by keeping the survey forms and other study-related documents in a
locked cabinet, where only the research team had access.

 Was the study designed to minimize risks and maximize benefits to

participants?
Yes

 Was the most rigorous possible design used, given the purpose of the
research?

Yes, the design used which is descriptive exploratory is the most appropriate
design that is needed for the study, this is because in order to determine the
perceived research capacity among nursing faculty in academic settings in the
Philippines, the researchers must investigate the full nature of the phenomenon,
the manner in which it is manifested, and the other factors to which it is related.

 Were appropriate comparisons made to enhance interpretability of the

findings?
 Was the number of data collection points appropriate?
 Did the design minimize biases and threats to the internal and external
validity of the study e.g.was blinding used, was attrition minimized)?

 Was the population identified and described? Was the sample described
in sufficient detail?

No, the study population was stated and their corresponding faculty classification
which is either clinical or nonclinical. However, the inclusion and exclusion
criterion, which was used to select the participants, was not stated.

 Was the best possible sampling design used to enhance the sample’s
representativeness? Were sample biases minimized?
 Was the sample size adequate? Was a power analysis used to estimate
sample size needs?

Yes, the power analysis done yielded a power of 100% at a significance of .05
that indicates that the sample size is sufficient.

 Are the findings adequately summarized with good use of tables and
figure?
Yes, the results of the study was well summarized in tables, the tables can be
understood easily by readers and are labeled accordingly.

 Are the findings reported in a manner that facilitates a meta-analysis and

with sufficient information needed for evidence-based practice?
