The red hat follows the pattern below.

The pink hat is slightly shorter than the

red one; see Notes section for details on how to do this.

* ... * = work everything between asterisks across the round.

(asterisks are described here:
http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/abbreviations_explained/ )

Instructions in parentheses followed by x2,x3, and x4 mean you do what is in

the parentheses the number of times indicated after "x".
For example: (K1, P1)x2 means you do: K1, P1, K1, P1.

If you want to make the hat larger, cast on 96 stitches. The pattern will work
out pretty much the same. You may want to make the hat a little longer...
perhaps by knitting a few more rounds of * P6, K6 * before Rounds 1 & 2, and a
few more rounds of * K6, P6 * after Rounds 23 & 24. You can work the decrease
similarly (of course the stitch count at the end of each decrease round will
differ from the numbers stated in the pattern) or tweak the decrease to your
own liking.

If you want to make the hat a little shorter, like the pink hat pictured above,
just omit the 5 knit rounds in the decrease section (decrease rounds 1, 2, 4, 6,
& 8).

Please read "Notes" section before starting; it contains almost everything I

think you may need to know to work this pattern.
