THERE IS/ THERE ARE+COUNT NOUNS: A/AN,SOME,ANY

COUNT NOUNS HAVE A SINGULAR AND PLURAL FORM

SINGULAR (=ONE)

ExampleS: There is AN orange


There is AN apple
There is A banana
There is A Cake
 We use AN, when the following word has a vowel sound,example:
APPLE,ORANGE,ARM,OWL,ETC
 We use A when the following word has a consonant sound: Banana,
cookie,tomato,carrot,etc

PLURAL (=TWO or MORE)

Examples: THERE ARE TWO CAKES

THERE ARE SOME CAKES

THERE ARE FIVE BALLS

THERE ARE SOME BALLS

To make the plural, we add:

 Add –s: burguer burguers


Cake cakes
 Add –es: with nouns ending in -o,-s,-ch,-sh
Mango mangoes
match matches
 With nouns ending in “y”,we change the “y” for “ i “ and add –es:
Strawberry strawberries
Party parties
Story stories

To make the plural we can use a NUMBER or the word SOME


(=algunos,algunas)

Examples: THERE ARE FIVE APPLES (hay cinco manzanas)


THERE ARE SOME APPLES (hay algunas manzanas)

THERE ARE TWO ORANGES (Hay dos naranjas)


THERE ARE SOME ORANGES (hay algunas naranjas)

ANY

We use any in negative and questions.

THERE AREN’T ANY MANGOES (No hay mangoes)


THERE AREN’T ANY ORANGES (No hay naranjas)

In negative ,Any means there is NOTHING (=en negativo Any


significa que no hay nada)

¿ARE THERE ANY ORANGES? (¿Hay algunos naranjas?)


¿ARE THERE ANY MANGOES? (¿Hay algunos mangos?)

In questions; Any is used to ask if there is something (=en preguntas


,Any se utiliza para saber si existe cierta cantidad de cosas, es decir
para preguntar si hay algo)
