The "Cloaked One," also known as the Chlamydomonas, forms the subject
of an ancient legend called "The Mystery of the Cloaked One." The name's origin
is also shrouded in mystery. Some think of a connection with Darth Vader, who
was also sometimes known by that name. However, the Cloaked One of our story
is older than time, and likely predates Vader. Others imagine that the name refers
to its ability to cloak itself, to become invisible to all forms of detection. This is
more likely to be true.
Regardless, it is the mystery of our subject, rather than its name, with which
we are concerned. That it is also known by the name "Chlamydomonas" tells us
that it was also well known to the ancient Greeks. Those who have seen it report
an elliptical, multi-colored body with two whip-like appendages. Although it is
three-dimensional, it appears as if in cross-section because of its substantial
invisibility, and in this way can be observed. In the very center of a whitish
spheroid in the center of its body lies a black area which scientists have identified
as a true black hole, an area of ultradense matter from which no other matter or
energy can escape. This is believed to be the source of its power.
Within the body of the Cloaked One lie relatively small, irregular masses of
red and elongated areas of green, floating in a field of cobalt blue. Near the
"horizon" of the black hole lies a formless orange-colored area. The best theories
so far propose the following: the Cloaked One roams the Universe and captures
stellar matter from giant red stars, using hypergravitational mirroring to convert
them into red dwarfs before drawing them into its body. The elongated green
areas it contains are large colonies of green algae, each many times more massive
than our Earth, which derive photosynthetic nourishment from the enclosed red
dwarf stars and produce an organic matrix for the organism. The black hole forms
the nucleus which holds the being together and reenergizes it. The orange areas
form a transduction grid, which shield most of the Cloaked One's body from the
dangers of the black hole, and allow the reperfusion of energy that gives it life.
The blue area is thought to be water, absorbed from the many thousands of planets
encountered in the Cloaked One’s wanderings. Surrounding the entity’s body is a
lavender-colored skin or shield that forms its shell, hardened by the raw, savage
conditions of space. The giant whips, or flagella, are what it uses to propel itself
across Space. These flagella are directed to beat against folded space-time, and
each one ends in a spectacular singularity. If the tips of the two flagella were ever
to meet, the results would be unimaginable!
Chlamydomonas travels the interstellar reaches of our Milky Way Galaxy.
No one knows if it is a "he" or a "she," and it is thought that there is only one. It
has visited Earth several times, with disastrous effects. Each of the visits, which
occur about every sixty million years, has corresponded to a mass extinction of
many Earth species. It is not known whether the Cloaked One is aware of this
effect that it has had on living creatures, or whether it is sentient at all in any
meaningful sense. It simply is.
Since it is essentially invisible most of the time, scientists are best able to
track the path of the Cloaked One by the effects it has on its surroundings, such as
the disappearance of certain red giant stars, or the loss of water from a planet.
When they do locate the Cloaked One while it is visible, using powerful long-
range telescopes, these scientists have been able to observe it and describe its
features. This is how we have learned even the meager information that we have.
Its path has been preordained, and it is due to visit the Earth again soon.
