PERSONAL PROOF PORTFOLIO PACKET

Guide Question: How do we use geometric logic to create
change and raise awareness?

Name: ________________________________________________

Issue/Topic: ___________________________________________

Teacher: ______________________________________________

Date: ________________________________________________

The purpose of the Portfolio Folder is to document the steps of the

Personal Proof as you complete your project.

There are 4 major pieces of the Personal Proof Project:

1. Investigate
2. Design
3. Educate
4. Reflect

Your final project is Due: Friday October 4th 2018.

1
TOPICS
The purpose of this project is to demonstrate how logic helps us
create awareness about issues concerning us as Global citizens.

What is Global Citizenship?

Global Citizenship is about understanding the need to tackle
injustice and inequality, and having the desire and ability to work
actively to do so. It is about valuing the Earth as precious and unique,
and safeguards the future for those coming after us. Global Citizenship
is a way of thinking and behaving. It is an outlook on life, a belief that
we can make a difference.

What issues are of great concern to citizens right now?

What issues affect you most?

Your task is to create a research a topic, create a personal proof, and

develop an awareness poster. You will hand in this pocket after each
step, along with your articles and poster. The rubric is in the back.

2 Personal Proof 25

2
INVESTIGATE
In this section:
1) Identify the problem to be solved (the issue):

2) Make a list of questions/ideas/steps to guide your investigation:

3) Identify, collect, analyze, select, and organize relevant sources of

information (where you will get your sources from for the
justifications). List your sources here:

3
4) Write notes from your sources here:

4
DESIGN
In this section write your rough draft of your two-column proof:

5
Final Version of your proof

6
EDUCATE
Now you are going to create a poster to raise awareness about your
issue and educate others. Your poster has three parts: Your Personal
Proof, 4 Logic Statements, Visuals (Pictures, Graphs, Drawings, etc.)

1) Create an original conditional statement below:

2) After peer review, rewrite your sentence below.

3) My final conditional statement is:

AFTER YOU HAVE YOUR FINAL CONDITIONAL SENTENCE WRITE THE:

1) INVERSE:

2) CONVERSE

3) CONTRAPOSITIVE:

NOW GO FIND YOUR GRAPHICS AND CREATE YOUR POSTER.

8
REFLECTION
1) What do you think are the strengths of your Personal Proof?

2) What could you have improved upon?

3) Using what we have learned about logic, reasoning and proof,

respond to the Andy Warhol quote on the front of this packet.

4) What did you think about this overall project? What did you
enjoy? What didn’t you enjoy?

Summary: About My Project

This is a personal proof project for geometry. I chose to focus on unemployment because it’s
a problem around the world. Lots of people don’t have jobs and when people don’t have jobs,
it can lead to not having enough money for food and then people could die from starvation. I
made website because I want people to see it and help people who need jobs. I created a
personal proof and poster to let people know the basics of unemployment but to also tell
people what to do if they’re unemployed.

Personal Proof: My Argument

Statements Justifications
1. The unemployment rate is going up. 1. Given
2. In February 2009, the unemployment rate 2. I found this from
went up to 9.0 www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf
3. Many jobs are being lost per month 3. There are 135,000 job losses a
month=www.bls.gov
4. There are people living on food stamps. 4. There are 2,109,105 people living on food
stamps.
5. More opportunities for jobs will reappear 5. I found this in an article in the New York
in 2010 Times, the article was “Hiring? Raises?
Bonuses it really isn’t 2009 anymore is it?”

Conditional Sentence: “If we do not create more jobs, then more people will be living on food
stamps.”
