 Describe one way they will draw on God’s power or call for God’s help when they next
attend Church.

ADHD:
During the meditation in the lesson closure allow students to hold
on to a ‘fidget toy’ to help them stay relaxed and focused.
Also have blind fold masks and pillows available for students to
use to increase relaxation.
Gifted:
During the feel, see, hear activity- encourage these students to
write longer responses by including feelings, emotions.
Also extend these students by letting them read out their
responses to the class.
 Intellectual Disability:
Print out and glue the lesson closure question in the journals for
these students.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

 Promote thinking about drawing on God’s power in the Church, as a class

complete a ‘feel, see, hear’ about their experiences in Church. Having
prepared headings around the room, students can produce their response
where they would like in the classroom and then place their response
under the corresponding heading.

 Modell the first ‘feel’ response with the students.

“Let’s begin with ways we can hear God’s power in Church. When I am in
Church, I hear God’s power during the Priest’s homily. It reminds that we
come to Church to learn lessons of how to love like Jesus did and to
become closer to God.”

 Handing out post it notes for students to write their responses in a personal
space in the classroom and then place it under the heading when they are
done.

 Modell the next ‘see’ response for the students.

“How do we see God’s power in the Church? When I go to Church I see

God’s power when I receive the Holy communion. It reminds me that Jesus
died for our sins and that he made the ultimate sacrifice for us. So, I drew a
picture of my hands reaching out to receive the body of Christ. This time
we are all going to draw a picture of how see the power of God in Church”
  The last response is ‘feel’. Instead of modelling this response get students
to attempt this one on their own. Using the same process of handing out
sticky notes and also ensure to remind students that they can either draw a
picture or write a response.

 Once the sticky notes have been collected, visualise them with the class
and reaffirm the teaching that Jesus created the Church so that we can
have these experiences of coming closer to God in our Church community.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students) (10mins)

 To finish the lesson, take the students through a guided meditation using
calming music to review the lesson and to get students thinking about their
next Church experience.

 To begin the meditation, use some breathing techniques of breathing in

through their nose for 4 seconds and out through their mouth for 6.

 During the meditation include the following questions:

1. Think about Jesus teaching his members of the Church to draw on

God’s power. What might it have looked like? What might Jesus
have said?

2. Think about people in other communities and how it is hard for

them to resist temptations and receive forgiveness from God and
call for his help.

 Following the last question, instruct students to write their responses to it

in their religion journals.

“I will re-read the last question, and when you are ready I would like you
to write a response in your journals.”

OBJ 1:

Informal assessment of work samples of students post it notes and any

anecdotal notes on verbal responses throughout the activity.

While looking at post-it notes consider if students have been able to:

1. Did they include experiences that happen in the Church community?

2. Did they provide clear examples/illustrations of how their experience
made them draw upon God’s power?
3. Did they include any emotions/feelings they may associate with drawing
upon God’s power?
