CSE - Quantitative Analysis and numerical Reasoning Part 2

Problem – Solving

1. Josef purchased a lawn mower which was sold at 20% discount. He paid
Php 14,800.00 for the lawn mower. How much was the original price of the
law mower?
1. Php 18,250
2. Php 18,565
3. Php 18,500
4. 18,575

Let X = original price of the lawn mower

20% = discount given Php 14,800.00 = net price paid
X - .20X = Php 14,800.00
.80X = Php 14,800
.80 .80
x = Php 18,500.00
P 18,500 - .20 ( P 18.500 ) = P14,800
P 18,500 – P 33,700 = P14,800
P14,800 = P14,800

2. Ruth is paid P 17,000 for regular 40hr. week. Up to 40 hours, she is paid at
the regular hourly rate. For overtime of more than 40 hrs, she receives 11 ½
times as much as the regular hourly rate. How many hours did she work
during a particular week when she earned about P 24,650.00 ?
1. 48 hrs
2. 52 hrs
3. 55 hrs
4. 54 hrs

Ruth’s regular rate per hour. = P17,000 / 40 hrs = P 425.00 per hr.
Ruth’s overtime rate per hour: Regular x 1.5 = P 425.00 x 1.5 = P 637.50
Ruth’s overtime pay: P 24,650 - P 7,650
Ruth’s overtime pay per hour: P 7,650 / P 637.50 = 12 hrs
Regular work week + overtime : 40 hrs = 52 hrs.

3. A stationery pad that sells for P 18.50 can be bought for for P 150 when a
dozen pads are purchased at one time. What is the savings per pad, in pesos,
when the pads are purchased by the dozen?
1. P 6.95
2. P 6.50
3. P 6.75
4. P 6.00

P 150.00 / 12 = p 12.50 per pad

P 18.50 – P 12.50 = P 6.00

4. On the day of the school concert, 500 tickets were sold. The students paid
P150 each while non-students paid P200 each. If the total of P85,000 was
collected, how many non-students attended?
1. 250
2. 230
3. 260
4. 200

Money collected = P85,000 # of tickets sold = 500 tickets

Let X = number of students Let Y = number of non-students
X + Y = 500
150X + 200Y = P 85,000
( X + Y = 500 ) 150 check: X + 200 = 500
150X + 200Y = 85.000 X = 500 – 200

150X + 150 Y = 75.000 X = 300

150X - 200 Y = 85.000
- 50 Y = 10.000
Y = 200

6 . Josef Raymund divided his estate among his three children: Joe, Ray and
Sef in the ratio of 3: 2 : 2. If Sef received the amount of P 2.85M, what was the
total estate ?
1. P 10M
2. P 9.975M
3. P 9.5M
4. P9.9M

P 2,850,000 / 2 = P 1,425 Joe : 3 ( P1,425,000 ) = P 4,275,000

Ray : 2 ( P1,425,000 ) = p 2,850,000
Sef : 2 ( P 1,425,000 )
Total = P 9,975,000

7. The Del Rosario family’s monthly income is P 25,000. The family spends
30% for food, 20% FOR rentals, 10% for clothing ans 16% for miscellaneous.
How much is saved in peso value?
1. P6,520
2. P6,250
3. P6,000
4. P6,400

solution: 30% + 20% + 10% + 16% = 76%

P25,000 x 76 / 100 = P1,900,000 / 100 = P 19,000
P25,000 - P19,000 = 6,000
