WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH?

 Attempts to solve a new or continuing problem.

 Relates itself to previous attempts at solving a problem.
 Often divides main problem into subproblems.
 Accepts limitations based on certain assumptions.
 It is important to certain stakeholders.
 Follows a specific plan or procedure.
 Requires collection and interpretation of data.

HOW IS CHAPTER 1 WRITTEN?

INTRODUCTION:

A. BACKGROUND (2-3 pages)

 Historical Background
 Studies that the problem really exist base from the RRL that you read
 Paraphrase and Citations needed
 Funnel type:
- From general problems (local/foreign)
- Solutions they developed
- what are the gaps/problems that you observed on those solutions?
- What can you propose for improvements or much better solutions?

B. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

 Main problem
 Specific problems
 Main objectives of the researcher/s in developing the system

C. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

 Importance of the study to stakeholders
 List of groups of stakeholders
 Significance of the study for each group

D. SCOPE AND LIMITATION

 Features or capabilities of the system that will solve the specific problems mentioned
 Limitations or the things/situations that the system cannot do, cannot adapt, etc.

REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES

 Studies reviewed by groups of findings used as bases of specific research questions
 Findings in each group arranged chronologically

 Research about Foreign Literature

- In general, what are their current strategies/methods of solving such
problems?
- Being specific, what are the materials they used?

 Research about Local Literature

- In general, what are the current set-ups/methods or situations in the
Philippines that solve such problems?
- Being specific, what are the materials/components we used today?

 Tips in doing the review:

- Start searching professional journals (use EBSCO, other library sources in UE
Portal, etc)
- Try searching journals from other universities
- Begin with the most recent articles you can find
- Keep track of relevant articles in a bibliography (this will lead you to so many
studies)
- Don’t be discouraged if work on the topic is already underway.

 SYNTHESIS
- By gathering all the researches/studies, you need to integrate the different
strategies
- Integrate these materials to your system to develop it as a whole/one.

 CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
- Make a graphical representation of the system but still follow the:
Input  Process  Output
- Systems Theory/Management Theory for the entire system

 KEYWORDS
- Important terms related to your study
- Operational definition of such terms that are often used in the study
