Reed City increases

sewer rates
By Victoria Martin
Weekly voice

REED CITY — Reed City

sewer customers will be
paying more for the service
following the city council
improving a rate hike.
The Reed City Council
approved raising monthly
rates to $4.69 from the
current rate of $3.46. The
council initially looked at
increasing the monthly fee
to $6.95 but Reed City City
Manager Ron Howell rec-
ommended starting with a
smaller increase and then
bumping up the rate each
year.
The increase in sewer
rates will start with bills
sent out in November.
Residents will also con-
tinue to be charged the $5
per 1,000 gallons of use.
Reed City Treasurer Barb
Westerberg said the coun-
cil discussed increasing
the useage rate by 26 cents,
but she said the increase is
not warranted at this time.
Reed City water rates
will not change. Cur-
rently, water customers are
charged a service fee of
$6.75 per month and $2.18
per 1,000 gallons used.
