Around the globe, countless gifted and qualified people face financial
obstacles that hinder them from preparing for the vocation God has
given them. You are encouraged to give generously on World

around the globe to become the world-changers God created them to

New Office Hours and New Email Beginning October 8
The office hours at Aldersgate Church are changing beginning on
Monday, October 8th. New office hours are 10:00am to 3:00pm, Monday
through Friday. On an interim basis, Randy Gardner will be serving as
Church Administrator. All correspondence with the Church
Administrator should be sent to info@cvaumc.org.

For Our Youngest Friends
and Their Parents
A professionally staffed nursery is available for children birth through
age three during all services and Sunday School on the lower level. An
usher will be happy to direct you. Additionally, a Parent Room is
available in the Parlor adjacent to the Sanctuary, for viewing and hearing
all services. Please ask an usher to show you the way. All restrooms are
equipped with changing tables.
Sunday Children's Worship
During 9am and 11am Services
Calling all children! Sunday September 9th, children 3 years old through
5th grade are invited to come and be a part of our new Children's Worship
time downstairs following the Children's Message. There they will have
opportunities to encounter God through scripture, music, prayers, and
other meaningful and fun ways. Elementary-age children will return to
the sanctuary and gather with the congregation for the benediction each
week. At 9am, Pre-Schoolers move to their 10:10am Sunday School

Children's Sunday School
Sunday School, a time of bible discovery with friends, invites all children
to come and learn at 10:10am. Lynn Bremer leads the elementary class
(Room 106) and Sherry Bryant leads our all new Preschool/Kindergarten
class (Room 110). Classrooms are found in the Education Wing.
Joyful Noise Singers
Children (grades 3-6) are invited to gather in the Sanctuary from 12:15-
12:30 (by the organ after 11am service) with Rafael. This will be a time
for the children to learn more about music and rehearse for upcoming
opportunities to sing in worship as they glorify God. Contact Rafael at

Staff Openings at Aldersgate Church
Church Administrator needed -
On behalf of Aldersgate’s Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), we
share our church administrator, Amy O’Brien, was recently offered an
opportunity for a career change. Amy feels led by God to accept that
opportunity, and so her last day was Friday, October 5, 2018. We deeply
appreciate Amy’s service to our church for the past 11 years; and as she
leaves us, we send our prayers, gratitude, love, and good wishes with her
and her daughter, Erin. If you are interested or know someone that may

Kitchen Coordinator needed -
Elizabeth Peterson has served as our Kitchen Coordinator for the past
three years and her time as coordinator ended September 30, 2018. Her
time, energy and dedication to the position is appreciated and we thank

UMM Flower Bulb Sale
The United Methodist Men’s group will be conducting a sale of iris roots,
glads, and jonquils bulbs in the Reed Room on Saturday, November 3 rd,
9am-4pm, and Sunday, November 4th following the 11am service until
2pm. We also invite other church members to donate any extra plants or
bulbs from their own source to this sale. The profits from this sale will
continue to support the men’s group of many church building
improvements. Come let’s find homes for these excess plants.
Lawn Furniture Needed
Please look around your yard and garage for excess lawn, porch
furniture. Often during the weekdays, neighbors bring their children over
to enjoy the swings and slide, and we need more than just two useable
chairs for these guests to rest on. Can you help? Please call Merrill
Bishop (975-3072), and we'll be glad to come pick them up.

Beginning Sunday October 14 , a study of the book of Isaiah. We will be
using a booklet from the Genesis to Revelation series to guide our group
discussion. In this series each lesson asks three main questions:
1. What does this passage say? In other words, let's get the facts
straight!
2. What does the passage mean? How did the first hearers understand
the passage in their time?
3. What might the passage mean to me, in my life, here, today? How
can I live this passage?
The lesson, then, moves from information in/about the passage to
questions of personal discipleship. We meet Sunday mornings in the
downstairs fellowship hall at 10 am. Please join us!

don’t need to do anything other than show up and enjoy.

Save the Date! Children’s Nativity
All children and youth are invited to participate in our Children's
Nativity, "ON THE ROAD TO BETHLEHEM", which will be held on
Saturday, December 15th. There will be speaking roles for all ages along
with traditional carols and also a few new songs. Younger children are
encouraged to be in the Nativity, too, so if you have a 4 year old thru 2 nd

A Service for the Blessing of Animals
TODAY at 3:00pm
A Blessing of Animals at Aldersgate Church today at 3:00pm witnesses to
God's and the church's love, care, and concern for creation and
recognizes our mutual
interdependence with all
of God's creatures. This
service is designed for all
ages, including children. It
will be held outdoors in
the lower parking lot,
weather permitting, to allow for larger animals, including horses or other
livestock, to be present. Favorite toy animals also are welcome.
All Saints Sunday
On All Saints Sunday, November 4th, we will remember the members of
Aldersgate who have died since November 1, 2017. In addition, if you
have a friend or family member you would like to remember in the All
Saints Sunday bulletin, please write the name on the tear-off flap of the
Worship Bulletin or email aldersgate@cvaumc.org. All names are due by
9am on Tuesday, October 30.
NEX-GEN Virginia Conference
Youth Fall Retreats
Aldersgate youth are encouraged to attend the annual Virginia
Conference Youth Retreat Weekends. This is a fun weekend of activities,
music, over 2 night and 2 days. This is a great time to get away from the
world and be with friends.
Middle School Retreat Details (Grade 6th – 8th Only)
Retreat Weekend will be Friday, November 9th til Sunday November 11th
Middle School Full Price and final date for Weekend Retreat with
$145.00 payment by October 14th
High School Retreat Details (Grades 9th – 12th Only)
Retreat Weekend will be Friday, November 30th til Sunday, December 2nd
High School Full Price and the final date to reserve a spot for the
Weekend Retreat with $145.00 payment by Sunday, November 11th.

Volunteers for Sunday Night
Youth Dinner
Our Youth Group for 2018-2019 is in full swing and each Sunday night
when we meet at the church for youth group, the Middle School and
High School youth join for a time of fellowship over a meal from 6:15
PM – 6:45 PM. Youth Group is seeking adult volunteers, Sunday School
Classes or other adult small groups in the church who would be willing
to volunteer to assist with our Sunday Night Youth Group Dinner. We
would ask that the night you volunteer, you would help prepare or pick
up our meal, set up food for buffet style serving, join us for dinner and
fellowship and help us with cleaning up following dinner. This act of
Agape supports our youth but it also helps our adult youth group
leadership. If you can serve the youth in this area for one meal this
year, please see the available dates in the Reed Room (meal stipend
monies are available to support this ministry). For more information,

Do you own a sewing machine? Do you have a drawer or closet or tubby
full of fabric? We need you! The Living Nativity ministry needs more
costumes, and we are in need of folks to help make them. Patterns and
fabric will be provided, and they range from very easy to mildly

everyone who is creative and wants to be part of this

TRUNK OR TREAT 2018!
Join us Saturday, October 20th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM (Rain Date: Oct.
21st) in the parking lots for Trunk or Treat 2018!! This is a FREE
community event that will feature: trunks, candy, food, live music, first
responders, train rides, games, bounce house, crafts and a petting zoo!!
We are expecting between 1,500 to 2,000 people this year and we will
need your help making this a successful event! It is a great opportunity
to serve and connect with our community! Please consider hosting a
trunk and donating the following items: hotdogs & buns, chips and
LOADS OF CANDY!! There are tons of volunteer opportunities so head

Opportunity to Serve Habitat for Humanity
Each month AUMC partners with Habitat for Humanity of Greater
Charlottesville to help build safe, decent, and affordable homes for
families in our community. Our next build day is Friday, October
12th. We would love to have you come and join our crew. We do a
variety of tasks and all skill levels are welcome. For more details and

Living Nativity Needs You!
Are you looking for a way to serve that will be fun and limited in time
commitment? Last year the Living Nativity had over 300 guests come
and watch the story of the birth of Christ. We will be presenting the
Living Nativity on Friday December 21st in the parking lot at 6:00, 7:00,
and 8:00 pm. The rain date is Saturday December 22nd.We are looking
for a Living Nativity Crew! This would include: actors; media coverage;
costume care helpers; set up and breakdown of the manger; traffic and
restroom security; parking attendants; sheep stall construction; clean up
help after the last performance of the parking lot and Reed Room; and a
meal providers for the working crew. There will be a meeting of those
interested in helping with any aspect of the Living Nativity on
Wednesday, October 17th at 7:00 PM in the Reed Room. If you have
