Level
1. (a) Explain the difference between static and dynamic 01 C2 [5]
characteristics of measuring instruments. Draw sketches to
illustrate the dynamic characteristics of the following:
a) Zero order instrument
b) First order instrument
c) Second order instrument

(b) How do seven segment display and mechanical chart recorder 01 C2 [5]
work? State their application areas.

2. (a) Name any two types of differential pressure meters. Briefly 02 C2 [6]
describe how each one works and explain the main advantages
and disadvantages of each type.
(b)
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of open-loop control
03 C2 [4]
system. Why is derivative control scheme used very cautiously
in industrial applications?

3.(a) What will the responses of a control systems have in common 03 C3 [5]
if a pole is moved on s-plane
a) with a constant Real part
b) with a constant Imaginary part
(b) c) along a radial line extending from the origin 03 C3 [5]
An integral controller is used for speed control with a setpoint
of 12 rpm within a range of 10 to 15 rpm. The controller output
is 22% initially. The constant 𝐾𝐼 = −0.15% controller output
per second per percentage error. If the speed jumps to 13.5 rpm,
calculate the controller output after 2s for a constant 𝑒𝑝 .
