A. Facts of the Case

Sittie Yu Acampang, 56 years old and a teacher by profession, together with husband Mohathereen
Acampong, Sr., was detained in Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Tipanoy, Iligan City,
Lanao del Norte on June 26, 2015 for alleged commission of the crime of murder to a certain Abul Lao.
However, on may 23, 2017, she was among those who were released by the Maute Brothers when the
latter ransacked Marawi City jail. Accused Sittie together with her co-accused husband, Mahathereen
Sr., and son Hamza Acampong went to escape together with the other inmates from Marawi City Jail.
Sittie and her husband went home to SND but soon after surrendered themselves to the BJMP of Iligan
City on June 26, 2017. However, her son Hamza went missing after they have escaped from Marawi City
Jail.

According to the accused, sometimes on November 26, 2006, her son Sobrael asked permission to go
buy a load in the nearby sari-sari store. Few minutes after, she hearded one of her neighbours shouting
“ Ate! Ate! Miyatay so wata ka dowa (Ate! Ate! Your two children died
