Subject: Replacement of chalkboards in VSB building classrooms

Half of my stay in Our Lady of Fatima University was spent in the VSB building. I
noticed immediately after two days that the SJB building and VSB building have
different writing boards. The former has a whiteboard while the latter has a
rickety chalkboard. Being a person having allergic rhinitis, this chalkboard
instantly set me on alert.
I request the university administration to replace all of the chalkboards in VSB
building with whiteboard ones. Whiteboards are cost effective, inexpensive and
have low running costs. They do not produce harmful dust particles, such as
those produced by blackboards. Markers leave no dust on a teacher and
student’s clothing. Whiteboards are not messy unlike their blackboard
counterparts which produce a lot of allergenic chalk dust which increases the
risk of allergic rhinitis. You can also use several different colors to discuss lessons
in a whiteboard. Catching a student’s attention with these bright array of colors
will be a piece of cake.

Replacing these detrimental chalkboards will be beneficial not only to the OLFU
students but also to all teachers and maintenance.
