Final Report

Area Committee on 11th Congress Statement

EdCom Visit

Introduction

The Marist Mission Congress is a biennial gathering of more than an hundred Marist
Brothers and lay partners organized by the Marist East Asia Province for missions
and institutions in the sectors of China and Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia,
Philippines, and Singapore. The Congress is a venue for revisiting mission and
institutional programs and policies, and for setting future directions that would
enliven the Marist charism and recognize the vital role of the Lay Marists as co-
responsible in the journey toward the greater vitality in Marist institutions and
missionary endeavors. The output of the Mission Congress is a Congress Statement
that outlines and expresses the common directions and priorities that the Brothers
and lay Congress participants commit to undertake as Marists. The Mission
Congress used to be called Education Congress, however, in the 9 th Congress, the
name Mission Congress was used in reference to both school and non-school
missions of the Marist Brothers. The hosting of the Mission Congress is on rotation
among Marist schools and institutions in the Philippine sector. Marist School hosted
the 9th Marist Congress at The Farm in Koronadal City.

As part of the assessment tool for the visit of Marist Education Committee, the
Statement of the 11th Marist Mission Congress, underwent review and analysis by
the members of the Area Committee on the Statement of the 11 th Marist Mission
Congress (See the List of Members on Attachment A).

To tackle the assignment, the committee members were divided into five groups of
four to five members each with two statements assigned to each group. The groups
conducted document research from minutes of relevant meetings, reports and
programs; and interviewed administrators and personnel concerned to get the
actions taken and the sources of evidence under each statement. The information
gathered were consolidated and presented during a plenary session attended by the
school personnel. The final report is submitted to the Principal for consolidation with
other area reports for the EdCom Visit on January 23-24, 2018.
