1. Ransomware attacks are rising massively with nearly 50% more cyber attacks against the
unprotected computers this year. On the other hand, Ransomware attacks on mobile phones
have reduced drastically from 137,000 compromised devices last year to 130,000 until present.
However, this is a small number when compared to the number of compromised computers.

2. Do make sure that all systems and software are up-to-date with relevant patches. Exploit kits
hosted on compromised websites are commonly used to spread malware. Regular patching of
vulnerable software is necessary to help prevent infection.

3. I personally would not blame a victim’s family for paying ransom to secure the release of their
relative, if they believed that was in his best interests.
