Screening Saves Lives!

Cervical Cancer Screening Study (CCSS)

How do I use the study tools?

Q.. What is the CCSS study intended to do?

A. The study is designed to evaluate if brief consultation provided by physicians during the course of
routine care is an effective method for increasing knowledge about cervical cancer and improving
attitudes about cervical cancer screening among female patients.

Q. What are study tools?

A. As a study participant, you will be provided 4 study tools -
1. 2 posters
2. Prescription Pad
3. ACS Pamphlets
4. Referral Sheet

Q. What is the purpose of the posters?

A. We request that the posters be placed prominently in your office. The purpose of the posters is the
following:
1. It is intended to increase the knowledge of your patients about the cervical cancer test that can
save their life and give them an opportunity to take care of their family and children.
2. It is intended as a reminder to you, the physician, to recommend Pap test to women between the
ages of 30 – 65 years.

Q. What is
is the purpose of the prescription pad?
A. There are 2 key functions of the prescription pad:
1. To help you with the consult. It lists the 3 things that we are asking all physicians to do:
a. Recommend Pap test to women between the ages of 30 – 65 years
b. Give them an ACS pamphlet that will tell them more about the test and why they need it
c. Give them information, the referral sheet, on where they can get the test.
d. Note down the woman’s phone number if they agree to talk to an ACS Study Interviewer
by phone (a woman in Ahmedabad who will speak in Gujarati) for 5 minutes.
2. It is a data collection tool for the Study. You will NOT be required to keep any additional data.
Please fill out the form for each woman you provide a consult to. You can keep the top sheet and
we will collect the carbon copy from you.

Screening Saves Lives!

Q. What is the purpose of the ACS Pamphlets?

A. To give women all the information they need on why they should to get the Pap test and how do they
prepare themselves for the test. Ideally, it should act to reinforce what you talk with her about in your
consult.

Q. What is the purpose of the Referral Sheet?

A. It gives a woman options on where she can get the Pap test. The list includes places that will do the test
for free and places where they would pay to get the test. The women chose to suit their means.

Q. What is duration of the study?

A. 6 months

Q. What happens during these 6 months?

A. The physicians will provide recommendations for cervical cancer screening tests to women between the
ages of 30 – 65 year as recommended by the WHO. The ACS Study Coordinator will collect data (the used
prescription pads) every week from your office

Q. What happens after 6 months?

A. We hope that you and your practice will benefit from this experience and will continue to provide the
much needed consult for cancer screening to your patients. Studies worldwide have indicated that
physicians in the community can save lives by recommending screening to their patients.
