THE COMPLETE WORKS of OSCAR WILDE

Compiled and edited by Pynch

It collects all of his plays (including the fragments), his only novel, his fairy
tales and short stories, the poems, all of his essays, lectures, reviews, and other
newspaper articles, basically based on the 1909 edition of his works.

So, you’ll find in here:

THE PLAYS.
Vera or the Nihilists, The Duchess of Padua, Lady Windermere’s Fan, A Woman of No
Importance, An Ideal Husband, The Importance of Being Earnest, Salomé (the French
original and Bosie’s translation, and the fragments of La Sainte Courtisane and A
Florentine Tragedy.

THE NOVEL.
The Picture of Dorian Gray. (Both versions. See update 3.0.) (No Teleny here, as I
don't think it’s his.)

THE STORIES.
All the stories and tales from The Happy Prince and Other Tales, Lord Arthur
Savile’s Crime and Other Stories (incl. The Portrait of Mr. W.H.), and A House of
Pomegranates.

THE POEMS.
I’ve used ‘The Collected Poems of O.W.’ and only later discovered that there are
some poems missing. These will be restored in a future update. (see update 2.0)

THE ESSAYS etc.

The four essays from ‘Intentions’, The Soul of Man under Socialism, De Profundis
(the unabridged version!), The Rise of Historical Criticism, the lectures (The
English Renaissance in Art, House Decoration, Art and the Handicraftsman, Lecture
to Art Students), and all of the Articles and Reviews that were published in the
‘Reviews’ and ‘Miscellanies’ volumes of the Complete Works. (see update 2.0)

I have thoroughly checked the texts against their original print editions,
harmonised the formatting, put the italics back in where necessary, assigned the
proper classes to poems, quotes, subtitles, etc., corrected the section breaks, and
made active footnotes. Also, I put all the Greek words back in ‘The Rise of
Historical Criticism’. Fonts are embedded in the epub to get the Greek letters and
small caps, and dates for premieres/first publications are given wherever
available.

For easier navigation, there are tables of contents for each section and one for
the whole volume. At the end of each text there are links bringing you back to the
respective contents tables. I have also added an alphabetical index for the poems
and a combined one for all the essays, lectures, articles, and reviews.

As I already mentioned, some of the poems are missing and will be restored in the
future. I might also add the 13-chapter version of ‘Dorian Gray’ in an update if
you’re interested.

This was a lot of work and I would like to make this edition as reliable as
possible, so it would be great if you could send me a short message if you find any
errors or texts missing. Any other feedback would also be appreciated, of course.
Best,
pynch.
