● Animal Adaptation Scavenger Hunt Print Out (one copy per student) 
● Ipad (one per group - Be sure Ipads each have Drawing Pad App and fully 
functioning camera. 
 
1. Define “adaptation” and have students give examples of when they have seen animals 
adapt to their surroundings.  
2. Introduce California Academy of Sciences. Explain to students that they will be seeing 
animals living surrounded by water and animals living with very little water. 
3. Demonstrate proper use of Drawing Pad and Camera apps on Ipad. ex)“Drawing what 
you see.” Encourage fun but appropriate selfies. Review what it means to be 
technologically responsible.  
4. Emphasize the importance of appropriate behavior - especially for the safety of plants 
and animals. Ex) Do not throw or drop anything in open tanks. No camera flashes.
