14.Deforestation is caused due to urbanisation and industrialisation.

Deforestation is responsible for desertification and natural calamities. Many species of plants
and animals are destroyed due to deforestation.

15.Recycling increases the use of waste materials by converting them into new materials or objects.

When we recycle paper we are saving trees and water because we are preparing new paper to be used
from the old wasted paper which in turn is saving trees from being cut for paper.

When we recycle around 1 ton of paper we invariable save 17 trees and around 7000 gallons of water
besides saving fuel and energy.

16.Reproductive Health

Reproductive health is defined as a state of physical, mental and social well- being of a person in all
matters relating to the reproductive system at all stages of life.

The important conditions to maintain good reproductive health during adolescence are:

1)It is necessary to eat balanced diet during adolescence.

2)It is necessary to maintain personal hygiene during adolescence.

3)It is necessary to take adequate physical exercise during adolescence.

4)It is necessary to avoid taking any drugs during adolescence.

18.Lila’s diet is not a balanced diet because her meal does not contain the adequate nutritional
requirement. She takes only proteins and carbohydrates in every meal. She also requires vitamins and
minerals in her meal to protect from various diseases.
Thus, I would suggest her to include fruits and vegetables in her meal, to obtain vitamins and minerals
and complete her diet.

During adolescence, the secretion of sweat glands (sweat) and sebaceous glands (oil) increases. The
excess oil and sweat gets collected in the tiny pores of the skin blocking them.

Bacteria grow in these blocked pores causing swelling and redness which leads to the formation of acne
and pimples. Regular face wash keeps the face clean and dry and helps to reduce the pimples.

20 i)The protected forests are not also safe completely for wildlife because the poaching takes place at
large scale in these areas. The poachers kill wild animals in those protected areas.Protected forests are
not completely safe for wild animals because people who live near or adjacent to forests use resources
from forests to fulfill their own requirements. In this process, wild animals are killed and sold for
lucrative amounts of money.

Ii)We should conserve biodiversity because it is very important for all living organisms and for the
environment. We should conserve biodiversity to save it from becoming extinct.

21.i)(a) Adrenaline is secreted from adrenal gland during the stress conditions like fright or fear, anger,
worry or embarrassment. The hormone prepares the body to function at maximum efficiency by
increasing the heart beat and breathing rate, raising B.R, etc.

(b) Growth hormone is secreted from pituitary gland to regulate the normal growth of a person, i.e.
growth of a child to adult. Its deficiency in childhood makes a person dwarf, while its excess makes a
person very tall (gigantism).

21ii)

Adolescents are advised to eat more protein than adults because protein is very important for growing
children. They need it for their proper growth and nourishment. Moro ever, different hormonal changes
take place in growing children thus protein intake should be increased because it helps in the production
of enzymes, hormones and other body tissues. It also makes their bones strong.
