IN-CW4018 Indiana Crop Weather October 9, 2018

Harvest Continued Slowly but Steadily

Harvest progressed steadily throughout much of the State, though
late-week rainfall delayed fieldwork in some areas, according to
Greg Matli, State Statistician, USDA, NASS, Indiana Field Corn Condition
Office. Significant weekend rains in the northern part of the State
hampered fieldwork, while the southern part of the State remained 60

Percent
relatively unscathed. 40

The average temperature for the week was 70.9 degrees, 12.9 20 2018
degrees above normal for the State. The amount of rainfall varied 0 2017
from none to 3.47 inches during the week. The statewide average
precipitation was 1.18 inches. There were 4.7 days available for
fieldwork for the week ending October 7.

Growers made progress on corn and soybean harvests early in the

week before the rain. Popcorn and commercial tomato harvests
were reported as nearing completion. Cover crop and winter
wheat plantings continued steadily where time and conditions Soybean Condition
allowed. Other activities for the week included spreading potash
60
and phosphorus, fall tillage, and hauling grain.
