Check for stability

1) Check for uplift
Water pressure (upward) = 17.4*10
(where 17.4 m is total height from GL to invert level and 10 Kn/m3 is density of water)
174 kN/m2
Total pressure from structure = 573.5 kN/m2

Since total pressure from structure is greater than water pressure, the structure is safe in uplift.

2) Check for deflection

Max deflection of the structure 6.198 mm in Y direction
Permissible deflection of the structure = Span / 350 (as per IS 456-2000 Clause 23.2 b)
57000/350
16.28 mm.

Since permissible deflection of the structure is greater than Max deflection of the structure
hence the structure is safe in deflection.

3) Check for safe bearing capacity (SBC)

SBC of the soil strata 600 kN/m2 (As per RMR value)
Total pressure from structure 573.56 kN/m2

Since total pressure from structure is lesser than the SBC of the soil strata, the structure is safe.

a) Fully dry condition

b) Partially submerged condition (Water table up to crown of Cut-and-Cover)
c) Fully submerged condition (Water table up to GL).
d) Saturated soil.

Check for stability for 11m overburden

1) Check for uplift

Water pressure (upward) = 17.4*10 (where 17.4 m is total height from

GL to invert level and 10 Kn/m3 is density of water)
= 174 kN/m2

Total pressure from structure 573.5 kN/m2

Since total pressure from structure is greater than water pressure, the structure is safe in uplift.

2) Check for deflection

Max deflection of the structure = 6.198 mm in Y direction

Permissible deflection of the structure = Span / 350 (as per IS 456-2000 Clause 23.2 b)

= 57000/350
= 16.28 mm.

Since permissible deflection of the structure is greater than Max deflection of the structure
hence the structure is safe in deflection.

3) Check for safe bearing capacity (SBC)

SBC of the soil strata = 600 kN/m2 (As per RMR value)

Total pressure from structure = 573.56 kN/m2

Since total pressure from structure is lesser than the SBC of the soil strata, the structure is
safe.

= 0.622 x 1000 x 545

= 338990 N
= 338.99 KN
Pt % Provided = 0.500%
τc = 0.32 N/mm2 [IS 456, Table No.23, Pg.84]
τV > τc
Shear Reinforcement will be design

V_s=V-τ_c×b×d [IS 456, B-5.4, Pg.84]

= 338990 - 0.32 x 1000 x 545
= 164590 N
= 164.59 KN

No of stirrups provided = 4 No.

S_V=(0.87 fy×A_Sv×d)/V_(s ) [IS 456, B-5.4, Pg.84]

275 x 50.24 x 4 x 545

∴ Sv =
164590
= 182.99338 mm
Provided 8 mm dia 4 legged stirrups 150 mm c/c
