Dear Mr. Feliciano Santos,
Please find below our techo-commercial offer for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC)
works of a 100.000 BPD Hydroskimming type Crude Oil Refinery planned to be constructed in Mexico.
Best Regards,
A hydro-skimming refinery is equipped with a main Atmospheric Distillation Unit (ADU), a Catalytic
Reforming Unit (CRU) and a Diesel Hydro-desulfurization (DHDS) unit.
After desalting step, the crude oil is fed into the flash tower to separate the components with low boiling
point. This step prevents the heating of light hydrocarbons to high temperatures unnecessarily and reduces
energy consumption. The buttom stream of flash tower is then passed through fired heater and fed to the
main distillation tower after mixing with lighter hydrocarbons distilled by flash tower before. The ADU
separates most of the lighter end products such as gas, gasoline, naphtha, kerosene and diesel from the
crude oil. The tower contains two pump arounds to reduce energy loading on condenser and three steam
strippers to enrich the fractions. The feed is also preheated with kerosene and diesel streams.
Catalytic reformer (CRU) is used as a chemical process to convert naphtha, typically having low octane
ratings, into high-octane liquid products. This process re-arranges or re-structures the hydrocarbon
molecules in the naphtha feedstocks as well as breaking some the molecules into smaller molecules. The
overall effect is that the product reformate contains hydrocarbons with more complex molecular shapes
having higher-octane values than the hydrocarbons in the naphtha feedstock. In so doing, the process
separates hydrogen atoms from the hydrocarbon molecules and produces very significant amounts of
byproduct hydrogen gas for use in the hydrotreating step.
Diesel Hydro-desulfurization (DHDS) is also catalytic chemical process used to remove sulfur (S). The DHDS
process includes hot and cold separators for liquid and gas separation, the scrubber system for the capture
and removal of the resulting hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and the steam stripping unit for the removal of
sparingly soluble sulfur components in the finished product.
