BṚHAT JĀTAKA

In the movable and other signs, the first, the central and the last navāṁśas are known as
vargottamāṁśas. Grahas in such positions will produce good effects. (01.14)

A graha has sthana bala when in his uccha, mitra rāśi, mūlatrikoṇa, navāṁśa or in his kṣetra.
(02.19)

...if no graha look at the first bhāva, the color of the person will be that of the rising navāṁśa.

If Guru, Chandra, Śukra and Budha occupy the kṣetra, navāṁśa or drekkāṇa of saumya
grahas, there will be no early death. (06.10)

The daśā period of a weak graha occupying an inimical navāṁśa or the nīcha bhaga is known
as aniṣṭa [undesirable, unfavourable, leading to hell, not offered in sacrifice, bad, etc.]. (08.05)

While so moving (arohiṇī), if the graha occupy an inimical or a nīchāṁśa, his daśā period is
known as adhama. (08.06)

The daśā period of a graha which occupies a nīcha or an śatru navāṁśa, when in a good
position, is known as miśraphala. (08.07)

The avocation of a person will be that stated for the grahas which might be the lords of the
navāṁśas occupied by the lord of the 10th bhāvas from the lagna, Chandra and Sūrya.

If Sūrya, the person will get wealth by dealing in perfumes, gold, woollen fabric, medicine and
by medical treatment of patients; Chandra, by tilling lands, productions of water, women;
Maṅgala, by metals or minerals, fire, weapons, by acts of boldness; Budha, as a writer,
accountant, handicraft; Guru, through brāhmaṇas, devas, learned men, through mines, acts of
virtue; Śukra, through gems, silver and other metals, cows and buffaloes; Śani, by hard labour,
acts of torture, by carrying burdens and by low deeds unsuited to his hank.

Thus, persons acquire wealth by avocation stated for the lords of the navāṁśas occupied by the
lords of the 10th and in the antardaśā of such lords. (10.03)

A person will be rich and live in comfort if Chandra occupy his own navāṁśa or an atimitra
navāṁśa, provided she is under the dṛṣṭi of Guru if the birth is diurnal, and by Śukra when it is
nocturnal. (13.01)

The person will become an ascetic if Chandra occupy the drekkāṇa of Śani and the navāṁśa of
Śani or Maṅgala under the dṛṣṭi of Śani. (15.03)

If Chandra occupy particular navāṁśas and be aspected by the several grahas, the effects
will be those stated as follows.

If Chandra occupy a vargottama, her own navāṁśa or other navāṁśas, the benefic effects will
be respectively full, imperfect and small. If the lord of the navāṁśa be powerful, the effects
described for graha dṛṣṭis in the case of navāṁśas will alone come to pass and not those
described for Chandra occupying several rāśis and being under the dṛṣṭi of several grahas.

A person born when the rising navāṁśa is that of meṣa will be a thief; vṛṣa, will enjoy away
his earnings; mithuna, learned; karka, wealth; siṁha, a king; kanyā, a hermaphrodite; tula, bold
in fight; vṛśchika, will earn by carrying loads; dhanu, a slave; makara, a sinner; kumbha,
wicked; mīna, fearless. But if the lagna be vargottama, he will become a leader among those
men. (21.09)

A person born with Chandra or lagna in vargottamāṁśa will be prosperous and happy.
(22.04)

Guru or Chandra and Śukra in 7th in the navāṁśa of Sūrya or Maṅgala indicate a single
wife. (23.01)

If Śani occupy the lagna and Śukra the cakrasandhi navāṁśas and the 7th bhāva, the
person's wife will be barren. (23.04)

If Śukra occupy the 12th in the navāṁśa of Śani, the person will be the son of a serving
woman. (23.06)

If the Chandra occupy the navāṁśas of karka or vṛśchika accompanied by krūra grahas,
the person will be afflicted with diseases of the genital organ. (23.07)

Sūrya and Chandra in the navāṁśa of the other indicates pulmonary consumption. (23.08)

Chandra in the 5th navāṁśa of dhanu or in mīna, karka, makara or meṣa navāṁśa
accompanied or under the dṛṣṭi of Śani or Maṅgala indicates leprosy. (23.09)

The lord of the navāṁśa occupied by Chandra, Sūrya, Chandra and Guru, if all one of them is
in nīcha or śatru navāṁśas, such person will serve under other men for his livelihood; if two of
the four, he will become a slave, if three or four, he will be the son of a slave. (23.14)

Śani and Śukra in each other's navāṁśa and aspecting each other, or if the rising sign be
vṛṣa or tula and the rising navāṁśa be kumbha, the woman will quench the poisonous fire of her
strong lustful desires by means of other women assuming a masculine character. (24.7)

Śukra and Maṅgala in each other's navāṁśa indicates that the woman will commit adultery.
(24.9)

If the setting navāṁśa be that of Maṅgala and the setting rāśi be aspected by Śani, the woman
will possess a diseased genital organ, and if the setting navāṁśa be that of a saumya graha the
woman will possess a fine genital organ and will become an agreeable wife. (24.10)

The setting rāśi or navāṁśa be that of Śani, the husband will be an old and fool man;
Maṅgala, of irascible temper but attached to his wife; Śukra, beautiful and fond of his wife;
Budha, learned and intelligent; Chandra, full of lustful desires and of a quiet nature; Guru,
courageous and having other virtues, will have control over his passions and desires; Sūrya, of a
very soft nature and engaged in many works. (24.11-12)
...in the antardaśā of the graha whose navāṁśa is occupied by the 8th lord, the woman will
become a widow. But a krūra graha must be in the 8th for this. (24.14)

If Guru occupy the 6th, 8th or a kendra, at the same time in his uccha rāśi or if the lagna be
mīna and Guru occupy it and be in the navāṁśa of a saumya graha, while the other grahas are
weak, the person will obtain salvation. (25.15)

SĀRĀVALĪ

...vargottamāṁśa lagna makes one important in his circle. (3.13)

The physical appearance will correspond to the navāṁśa lagna or the strongest graha. It may
also correspond to the lord of the navāṁśa occupied by Chandra. If many are strong, appearance
and complexion will be mixed. Race, caste and country should be considered while estimating
features and character of a person. (9.45-46)

If the lords of the navāṁsa lagna, Chandra and lagna rāśi are combust, the person lives just
for a few years. (9.16-17)

If the 5th falls in the vargas of Śani and be with Budha's dṛṣṭi, but without that of Guru,
Maṅgala or Sūrya, the person authorizes his kinsman to raise a children for him. (34.28)

Śukra's navāṁśa in 5th with Śukra's dṛṣṭi or the same involving Chandra's navāṁśa and dṛṣṭi
indicates a child with a female slave. (34.38)

There will be a single wife if siṁha, meṣa or vṛśchika is in the 7th navāṁśa of if Budha an
Guru join there. (34.47)

Śukra in 12th in kanyā, Śani's navāṁśa, while luminaries are in the 7th under the dṛṣṭi of
Śani, the native's mother though belonging to a noble race will become a slave. (34.72)

Phlegmatic disorders will result from Sūrya and Chandra in each other's navāṁśa. (34.75)

Lagna or Chandra vargottama and under the dṛṣṭi of five or six grahas [Mantreśvara
considers four] generates a rāja yoga. (35.06)

All the grahas in own rāśis and in friendly navāṁśas or vice versa generates a king. (35.43)

Śukra in his nīcha navāṁśa deprives the native from a vast kingdom. (39.22)

The place of death correspond to the rāśi occupied by the navāṁśa lagna lord. (47.20)

Complexion, disposition and appearance can be deduced based on the rising navāṁśa, but
this will depend on the strength of the lagna navāṁśa's lord being stronger than that of
Chandra's navāṁśa. (51.1)

PHALADĪPIKĀ

A strong lord of navāṁśa lagna will make one full of happiness. (03.11)

Even a graha in debilitation in rāśi or navāṁsa will be vested with full strength if he is
retrograde. (4.04)

Chandra for a night birth falling in śatru rāśi or navāṁśa and aspected by the 10th lord is
a kemadruma; in vṛśchika navāṁśa joining a krūra graha and aspected by the lagneśa as well.

The marriage will occur when Śukra or the lord of the 7th transits the trikoṇa of the navāṁśa
occupied by the lagneśa; during the daśā of the stronger dispositor of 7th lord in rāśi or
navāṁśa; Guru transits the trikoṇa rāśi or navāṁśa of the 7th lord.

Saumya dispositor of the 7th indicates a handsome, well reputed, learned and wealthy
husband, while the contrary indicates a deformed, stupid, deceitful and poor husband.

Chandra and Śukra in a rāśi or navāṁśa of Śani or Maṅgala in the lagna indicates a
prostitute in a female horoscope.

The 7th rāśi or navāṁśa being a saumya one gives beautiful hips and a very fortunate nature
to the wife. The contrary indicates a diseased female organ.

Chandra in 5th in a odd rāśi or navāṁśa under Sūrya dṛṣṭi indicates childlessness or distress
with them. (12.7)

The lord of the 5th, Guru, Maṅgala and Sūrya in male navāṁśas indicates many sons. The
influences on the 5th lord and its rāśi and navāṁśa also can be used for judgements. (12.10-11)

Guru's transit to the trikoṇa rāśi or navāṁśa of the 5th lord from Guru brings children.

The superior strength of the lord of navāṁśa lagna when compared to the lord of 8th makes
the person longlived. The same should be judged considering Chandra and its 8th. (13.16)

Birth in śukla pakṣa while Chandra occupies 1th, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th or 11th in karka,
siṁha, dhanu or mīna navāṁśa is an ariṣṭa bhanga. (13.23)

The 64th navāṁśa from the lagna and the nature of risks and death. (13.16)

12th lord rāśi and navāṁśa and the nature of death being painful or without suffering. (14.21)

navāṁśa of its lord and vice versa (16.31-32).

Śani's transit trough the rāśi or navāṁśa of the 8th lord of a certain house, destruction
occurs (17.01). Same can be said when he transits the trikoṇa rāśi or navāṁśa of the stronger
among 8th lord, Gulika, Śani or 22th drekkāṇa lord (17.02).

If a graha is weak, asta, but also in an auspicious house or navāṁśa, he will produce mixed
results and good effects in the latter half of the dāśa. (20.57)

JĀTAKA PĀRĪJĀTA

Sūrya in meṣa but tula navāṁśa makes one moneyless; Śukra in kanyā rāśi and navāṁśa
makes one a beggar; Sūrya in his nīcha bhaga makes one the ruin even of a royal family. (06.02)

Own navāṁśa is equal to mūlatrikoṇa, in friendly navāṁśa are like those of svakṣetra.
