Course Upon finishing this course, if learners meet all the requirements of the
Objectives course and achieve most of the objectives of the lessons, learners will be
able to:
 Reading:
 Get familiar with the four types of discourse in the SAT
Reading test: literature, social science, founding document,
and natural science.
 Successfully solve at least half of the question types in the
SAT Reading such as Vocabulary in Context, Main Idea,
Evidence, Inference, and Literal Comprehension.
 Writing and Language:
 Get familiar with the four types of discourse in the SAT
Writing and Language test: humanity, social science,
natural science, and career.
 Successfully solve at least half of the question types in the
SAT Writing and Language test, whose broad

classifications are Expression of Ideas and Standard English
Conventions.
 Math:
 Successfully solve at least half of the three types of question
in the SAT Math test: Heart of Algebra, Problem Solving
and Data Analysis, and Passport to Advanced Math.
 Essay:
 Get familiar with more advanced rhetorical devices used in
argumentative essays in the SAT Essay Test.
 Compose a complete essay with clear organization.
 Vocabulary:
 Be familiar with the common affixes and roots and capable
of utilizing them when learning vocabulary.
 Acquire 500 new words in various topics such as human
relationships, atonymous pairs, religions, and human
behaviors.
 Test-taking skills:
 Master the SAT test format.
 Apply strategies to improve test scores in different types of
passage and math problems.
METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
 This is a 90-hour course which includes 30 sessions of 3 hours each. Face-to-face
interaction between students and instructors is employed to maximize students’
learning potential.
 Target teaching
 Instructors need to pay close attention to students’ performance in both in-class
and ISP practice to identify students’ strong and weak points. From the
observation, adjustments of the course outline can be made to target students’
problems. For example, instructors may assign the easy part as homework and
spend more time in class on the challenging topics.
 A session typically consists of the following sections:
 Revision

 Instructors are to correct homework at the beginning of each class to
affirm students’ understanding of the previous lessons or to review the
lesson otherwise.
 Instructors correct the ISP tests as indicated in the course outline to
ensure students are making progress in their performance in test-based
experiences.
 Vocabulary
 The aim of the vocabulary session is to guide students on different
approaches in learning vocabulary to enhance their self-study skill since
the time in class would not be enough to cover every word in the vocab
listed in the course outline.
 Defining a word can be based on the root/stem words, positive/negative
tone, word family, context, etc.
 The majority of the vocab list should be assigned as homework and
checked with a small quiz at the beginning of the next class.
 Theory accompanied with practice in topic
 Each session is allotted for one specific topic or question type, which is
followed by relevant practice to guarantee students’ grasp.
 Practice
 SAT-based practice should be completed in timed periods.
 The practice results should be recorded on ECO to keep track of the
students’ progress.
 The students’ progress should be recorded and, most importantly,
reported to the Academic Staff (Head Teacher or Academic
Coordinator) if there is any problem or any sign of stagnation.
 Self-study is intensively encouraged with guidance throughout the course. Students
are instructed to take an active approach in their vocabulary study, homework
completion, and test performance.
INITIATIVE STUDY PROGRAM (ISP)
 ISP is established with the aim of giving students test-based experience, which is
valuable preparation for their taking the official SAT test. Students are required to take
4 ISP Mock tests during the course in week 2,4,9, and 11.
 ISP mock tests are conducted on a separate day from the learning calendar and IvyPrep
Academic Staff is in charge of the implementation.The test allocation can be found in
the ISP Allocation file.
 Instructors will correct the ISP mock tests in the following sessions as indicated in the
course outline.
BUDDY UP DAY (BUD)

 BUD’s objective is to provide a platform in which support is asked and offered among
the class members so that everyone can share their strength and improve their weakness.
 Beside the two class days, students are having an extra session every week. On week
2,4,9, and 11 they are taking their ISP mock tests and on other weeks they will spend
the 3-hour session on doing homework and tutoring each other.
 IvyPrep Academic Staff and Education Consultants are in charge of the schedule
arrangement from the beginning of the course.
METHODS OF ASSESSMENT
 During the course, students’ learning progress and achievement will be evaluated
through:
 4 ISP mock tests in the intermediate level suitable for SAT B.
 Midterm and Final Tests extracted from authentic SAT tests in the past.
 Homework to consolidate the information and skills discussed in class.
LEVEL ADVANCEMENT
 In order to earn the passing grade to advance to the following level, students must
satisfy the minimum of the following requirements:
 Attendance rate: 80%.
 Homework: 70%.
 Test score = 50% ISP mock tests + 50% Midterm and Final
 Total score: 1250 / 1600
 Reading: 280 / 400
 Writing and language: 280 / 400
 Math: 560 / 800
 Essay: 18 / 24
ASSIGNMENT
 Homework is assigned by teachers based on the amount of lesson content covered in
class. Typically, teachers should assign the undone work as homework.
 Homework assignments MUST be enforced and corrected in the following class to
ensure the effectiveness of the students’ practice.
CLASSROOM POLICY
 Classroom Conduct
 Students are expected to maintain a well-behaved manner at all times. Any
disrespect shown to the instructors or other students will not be tolerated.
 All students must bring required course materials, writing instruments and
notebooks to class.
 Attendance

 Attendance is mandatory and will be taken daily. Since the majority of the
materials on exams will come from classroom lectures and discussions, missing
any significant amount of class time will adversely affect student grades.
 Electronic Devices
 Use of electronic devices should be confined to emergencies and or academic
work. Mobiles must be switched off or set in silent mode. Personal use should
be only during classroom break.

LEARNING CALENDAR
PLEASE NOTE: Unanticipated circumstances during the course might require, at the
instructor’s sole discretion, modification of the learning calendar. Students will be timely
notified of such occurrences.
