Working with Quantitative Data

Two-Day Workshop
Using SPSS for Quantitative Analysis
in the Social Sciences
SPSS is one of the most popular statistical software packages currently available for the statistical analysis of
quantitative data. It has a high degree of functionality and allows researchers to undertake basic and more
advanced statistical analysis within a familiar and user-friendly interface. The software provides an easy and
efficient tool to undertake a broad range of statistical procedures, from summarising data to exploring
relationships between variables and statistical modelling.

The Basic SPSS workshop will provide you with a foundation in understanding basic key statistical used to
describe quantitative data. It will introduce you to the basic functions of SPSS, including exploring and
manipulating datasets, and using graphs and plots to visualise your results.
The Advanced SPSS workshop will introduce you to more advanced statistical techniques, including
correlation analysis, hypothesis testing and regression modelling. You will also see how the analysis
techniques you have learnt about can be applied in a real-world context, using official statistical sources to
undertake your own social research projects.

Who should attend? The workshops are suitable for anyone working with quantitative data, such as post-
graduate students, research & teaching staff, community groups, researchers in business, public sector and
healthcare organisations.
Venue: Middlesex University, The Burroughs, Hendon, London NW4 4BT.
Dates: The following workshops will take place on 1st-2nd March 2018 (10am-5pm).
Workshop fees: Day 1 Basic SPSS: £150; Day 2 Advanced SPSS: £150;
£250 to attend Day 1 & Day 2 SPSS workshops (fee-free places available for Middlesex students/staff)
Booking: Places on each of the workshops are limited to 12 people and these are allocated on a first come
first served basis. Participants can attend one or both workshops but those who wish to attend Day 2
workshop only must have previous introductory training in SPSS.
