My Position

Technology continues to advance and at this rate it will continue to advance. The world

has started to become dependable on technology because it holds so much information is just a

few clicks. Why would it be considered to take away technology from students if it will help

them adapt into the real world after they graduate?

Taking away technology from the curriculum is wrong for many reasons. The first reason

being that it allows more creativity for the student to show because the possibilities are endless.

When a student goes into a classroom, their worst nightmare would be walking in and sitting

down and having to listen to a fifty minute long lecture. No questions are asked, no participation

is required, it’s just watch the powerpoint as the teacher clicks through each slide. A classroom

like that is simple, boring, and lazy. It is extremely difficult for a student to stay focused when

the lecture is so dry and the teacher is monotone. According to a study by IT Trade Association

CompTIA, “...around 75 percent of educators think that technology has a positive impact in the

education process,” (TeachHub). Keeping the use of technology, in this case it would be tablets

or laptops, will help the students stay focus and learn at their pace.

Another reason that taking away technology from the classrooms is the wrong thing to do

is that there will no longer be a fast, convenient way to help students with different learning

styles. There are many programs that are available through the internet to assist students that

learn differently. For instance, a student who learns better with visuals can access program that

can help them learn the lesson topics better than through a powerpoint lecture.

My biggest concern is for students who have learning disabilities. Sometimes, it can be

difficult to help a child to understand different topics that are taught. With the use of technology,

teachers can find programs that are best suitable for students with learning disabilities. It would

help the teacher, help the student. For example, there is a program that helps students that are

diagnosed with dyscalculia. Dyscalculia is when a student has difficulty making arithmetical

calculations. The program that offers assistance is AAA Math. AAA Math can help making

learning mathematical problems easy to learn and taking away the frustration from students.

Using technology in classrooms should never be taken away from a student. That is like

the depriving them from a better education. A good educator, would do whatever it takes to make

sure the students receive what they deserve.

Identification of Standards

The standards of technology that are held between national and state levels can be similar

to an extent. The national level of standards are very broad, which leaves room for the state

levels to fill in with different ways that can benefit the students within the state. Every standard

falls under different categories and each category has subcategories that can be used for different

classes for different assignments. Each standard is held up with different requirements.

The Nevada standards only set up a simple standard for classrooms to follow. It is up to

the teacher, the curriculum, and the topic to see which standard fits the course better. They are

not content standards, they are simply standards according to the Standards of Nevada. Between

elementary, middle, and high school there are different standards that must be held up in regards

to technology that is being used and the goal that needs to be achieved for each grade. Starting

with elementary, the standards are a lot simple because they are only being introduced. For

middle school, those same standards are held up with a little bit more thinking that can take place

to achieve a higher goals. Finally, for high school it becomes more advanced. There is more

critical thinking and creativity that is put into any work that involved using technology. At this

point, students should be comfortable using technology to complete any assignment.

For my lesson, students will be following standard 3 3c: Students curate information from

digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that

he students will be creating any type of

demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions. T

outline, chart, or map to show a history topic of their choice that falls between the respective

dates. The goal is to let them explore different events in history that, to them, is the most

important. It allows them to expand knowledge on a topic that interests them the most.
