ECE 362 Class Assignment
Background Information:
Student A is a very sociable child, so it was very fun to work with him on this
assessment. He has an older brother, Student B, whom he looks up to and talks about. Student A
and his family live in town in Brookings, and have a couple pets, including a dog. His parents are
both working and provide a great home environment for Student A and B. In the classroom,
Student A has no trouble moving around the room and interacting with all his classmates. He can
contently play individually, but also enjoys interactions with other classmates and students.
Student A is also very creative and adds great ideas to projects, such as the ramps and balls.
Assessment Results:
Student A’s overall development resulted in “on schedule” for his age. In each category,
he excelled at the questions or tasks that I asked his, and he made it fun to assess. In the
communication category of assessment, I told him to “spin in a circle, clap your hands, sit
down”, and he remembered and accomplished all three. He even asked me to challenge him and
throw in another task. During our ramps and balls experiment, he used logical thinking to make
note that a marble is heavier than a ping pong ball. He excels at cutting, drawing, and tracing,
and works hard at it. Student A is also aware of his surroundings and environment, as he knows
his age, the city he lives in, and tells me all about his pets at home!
Recommendations:
Even though Student A scored on schedule with development, continuing his education
will still improve other parts of his development. One very slight delay that I noticed under the
communications category is that Student A might have a slight slur in his speech that can
occasionally make some words harder to understand. Even with this, his peers and teachers can
still understand majority of what he is saying. His personality and socialness will be great for
communications. To help with this, his family could focus on more alliterations with words and
working on breaking each word down and expressing its full sound.

Self-Evaluation of Testing:
Overall, this was a great experience and I am glad to have gotten the opportunity to work
with Student A. His parents are very nice and personable, so I felt reassured when having to
approach them about assessing their child. I do wish that I would have been more prepared to tell
his parents why we are doing this assessment and some of the activities to make them feel
included in it. Doing this ASQ was nice because it created an opportunity to work more one on
one with a student, rather than in large/small group. Lastly, I enjoyed the assessment process.
There is a more information that goes into than what I expected but it was a great process. I look
forward to more opportunities like this.
