Analysis of the Case: Tower Scientific Company

І. Executive Summary

Mr. Dick Heckman owned a firm named Tower Scientific Manufacturing Company, a

firm that specialize in producing metal implant for joints replacement (knees, hips, elbows,

etc.) the firm is four years old and employs approximately 75 people who range from highly

educated engineers, to unskilled machine operators. The firm has been profitable,production

has steadily increased and employee morale seems to be excellent. Mr Dick Heckman’s

leadership,dedication and hard work make the business successful. With his wife appealed,

he dicided to hire Executive Vice President to take over many of the daily operational

responsibilities and to allow him to take some time off and look into a possible new venture

for the firm and also to give time with his family to enjoy the fruit of his labor.

II. Statement of the Problem

In this case, problem occurred when Mr, Heckman decided to hire Mr.Howard

Wilkins as Executive Vice President. In a short period of time Mr.Heckman turn over many

of the daily operational responsibilities he used to performed. Transition made in a very short

period of time.Three days Mr. Heckman spent times with Mr. Howard going over all the

operation of the firm. Introduced him to all plant employees at the morning break & held a

four(4) hour working session with the key personnel in the firm.Two (2) more days Mr.

Heckman spent time with Mr. Howard reviewing details & financial data.Then he took off

with his wife for a three weeks trip to Hawaii.


III. Causes of the Problem

Transition in a very short period of time for the responsibilities, major rule for the firm

from Mr. Dick Heckman to Mr. Howard Wilkins create a tremendous problems. Problems

that reflected and appeared on the production stability, employee morale, even for

organizational destruction from key employees and personnel, resignation, absenteeism,

tardiness, of employees. Mr. Howard Wilkins attitude collaboration, communication toward

employees should be reviewed and consider.

1V. Decision Criteria and Alternative Solutions

There’s a solution to help Mr. Heckman and Mr. Wilkins to achieve and to attain back

what’s company’s goal.

1. Hire suitable employees for the replacement for those employees resigned.

2. Establish a good communication skills on how a leader –employee will work

Together being one aiming for same objective.

3. Provide trainings, orientation, round table discussion (RTD)on how issues be

address properly.

4. Establish and develop proper transition period when organizational structure is

being concerned.
V. Recommended Solution, Implementation and Justification

In this case, Organizational Bodies for Tower Scientific Company should consider

and allot time for this adjustment in his new role as Executive Vice President. Allow him to

execute his mastery in handling the operational responsibilities. Following recommendation

should be consider.

1. Mr Dick Heckman should establish enough time in terms of transition w/ Mr.

Wilkins. No. of days would not be enough to absorb all major operational

Responsibilities.

2. Howard should improve his communication skills to all employees who’s be with

him to support and to feed him all information regarding on the company’s

operation and Strategic Plan.

3. Execute the accountability, commitment with all employees to have a clear vision

on what’s the company is aiming for.
