ARP Category I – Advocate – Plant-wide Awareness

Asset Reliability Practitioner Training & Certification CAT-I

The Asset Reliability Practitioner [ARP] Category I “PLANT-WIDE AWARENESS” course is intended for everyone
working within an organization who in any way influence the management, design, engineering, procurement,
maintenance, or operation of an organization that involves critical rotating machinery and electrical equipment.

Detailed topic list:

Understand why improvement is desired Understand while failure occurs

INTRODUCTION UNDERSTANDING FAILURE

 Overview of reliability and performance improvement  Why does equipment fail?
 What causes equipment to be unreliable or perform o Mechanical failures
poorly o Electrical failures
 The relationship between reliability improvement and  Understanding equipment “failure patterns”
asset management, operational excellence, TPM, and o Does all equipment wear out with age?
lean strategies o What are “random failures”
 The relationship between reliability and safety o Early age “infant mortality” failures
BENEFITS  Why is this so important?
 How does the company benefit
o How to quantify the benefits Understand what we can all do about it
o Assessing the current state and measuring
the value of the gap DEFECT ELIMINATION
 How do individuals benefit  Overview of the goals of defect elimination
 An overview of each of the main sources of defects
and how to eliminate them
RELIABILITY CULTURE
o Design for reliability, maintainability,
 What it means to “think reliable” operability, and sustainability
 How to contribute to the reliability and performance o Procurement for lowest life cycle costs
improvement initiative o Transport without damage
o How important it is that you contribute o Acceptance testing to reject defective
 How you can help others to understand the benefits equipment
o Storage to eliminate degradation
o Eliminating maintenance induced failures
LEADERSHIP through precision installation, maintenance
 The importance of senior management support and commissioning
 The importance of leadership throughout the o Eliminating operator induced failures
organization o Proactive tasks that reduce the likelihood of
 The difference between leadership and management failure and poor performance
(and reluctant obedience)

ASSET STRATEGY
STRATEGY  What is the asset reliability strategy?
 Why it is important for everyone to understand the  Maintenance/operation options:
strategy o Run-to-failure
 The importance of the mission and vision statements o Condition-based maintenance
 The role of the reliability steering committee o Interval based maintenance
 What is involved in developing the strategy
 The importance of contributing to the strategy and
o The need for a master asset list
offering your ideas and observations
o The need for a bill of materials
