Committee of Combating the Environmental Pollution Accruing from

Oil Drilling in West Kurdufan State

Call No.2

To all civil society organizations, political powers, unions, human rights

committee, national, regional, and international environmental pollution
combating institutions, oil companies, ministries of health, environment
and oil, the governor of West Kurdufan, universities, educational
institutions, and all elites, specialists, experts, people of west Kurdufan and
Sudanese people.

We solicit you to help west Kurdufan state, in which pollution from oil
business had spread impacting the climate, soil and life; which led to the
spreading of fetal diseases amongst people and animals; including cancer,
allergies, miscarriages and infertility. The victims are in large numbers;
there are villages where the young people became infertile.

God wanted his created beings and elements to be in specific balance, he

says “and everything we created in a known amount,” and “and we planted
everything in balance.”

Environment is the essential relation between physics scientists,

anthropologists, socialists, economists, and politicians.

We wish to enlighten you that a conference for environment health had

been held in Babanosa city 2008, recommendations to care for
environment’s health were presented, and the local committee of
combating environmental pollution accruing from oil drilling had issued a
call and a memo upon Combating Environmental Pollution in Khartoum
18\Jan\2018 in which scientists, experts and specialists in environmental
health had participated and presented a number of papers confirming the
environmental pollution and spreading of fetal illnesses due to the
companies lack of commitment to the standards and environment well-
being.

The conference raised the alarm and demanded an investigation in addition

to putting conditions in the contracts of the companies working in oil fields.
It asked the official entities to send a specialized technical team to study
the effects, and results, they also filed a comprehensive memo to the
presidency, ministries of environment, oil and health, the governor of west
Kurdufan plus all the involved entities; and in order to deliver the content
of the memo to the public; both internationally and locally, the event was
covered by more than 20 media houses; visually, broadcasting and press; in
addition to local and alternative media.

We also point out that a number of workers in oil fields had been effected
by radiations due to unhandled mistakes that didn’t consider the safety of
people and workers; and then the ministry of oil had released a statement
about the incident and dozens of employees had been moved to Khartoum
for hospitalization.

Civil society organizations and Misearia union held a press conference in

Akhbar Alyoum newspaper; and demanded the companies and government
to follow the international standards and explained the hazards of pollution
and radiations on the climate and citizens in the area.

Our call is for the specialized bodies, local organizations, political powers
and rights’ committees that we hope they take into consideration
combating environmental pollution caused by oil industry.

Also the citizens of the affected areas are asked to protest via the legal
ways to stop the environmental pollution and request compensation in
addition to their commitment to international safety standards.

Therefor we must stop the pollution in west Kurdufan, take legal actions
against the polluters, and protect forests, plants, aqua life, wild life, water
resources, and climate.

Our call demands what’s following:

1- The formation of a team of specialized experts to evaluate and stop

environmental degradation.
2- Preserving west kurdufan’s environment until it become suitable for
living and giving.
3- Stop digging trenches around companies’ sites that leads to the
drought of creeks and natural bonds. These trenches are
endangering the natural life of humans, animals, grazing fields and
plants.
4- Assuring the environmental balance through projects of sustainable
developments that focus ecological, economical, and social
objectives.
5- The companies working in Oil Industry must follow international
safety standards and care about environment’s health.
