DESCRIPTION Mechanics:
1. Grade 7 English teachers will choose three (3) representatives from each section
they handle to participate in the said contest.
2. The chosen representatives must prepare their self-written script for the news
topic assigned to them --- CURRENT NEWS, SCHOOL NEWS AND SPORTS
NEWS.
3. Their English teachers must check/ proofread the script before the day of the
contest for any corrections and editing.
4. All the participants must wear attire that a real newscaster wears.
5. Extras such as field reporter, camera man and the likes are allowed but limited to
3 classmates only.
6. Props such as backdrops, powerpoint slides, background music are also allowed
but must be set up in 3 minutes and managed by two additional classmates.
7. REPEAT PERFORMANCE CAUSED BY PROPS MALFUNCTION OR ANY
OTHER RELATED PROBLEM IS NOT ALLOWED.
8. All participants, including the extras must be seated all throughout the contest
proper. Going out the venue and making unnecessary noise is STRONGLY
PROHIBITED AND MAY BE A GROUND FOR DISQUALIFICATION IF SUCH
ACTION CAUSES DISRUPTION OF THE CONTEST AS IT HAPPENS.
9. Winners will be declared as:
First, Second and Third Place respectively
10. Awards will be as follow:
First – certificate per member of the group and a trophy
Second and Third Place- certificate each member of the group.

Classrooms
DESCRIPTION Mechanics:
1.The contest is open for Grade 8 students only.
2.All sections in Grade 8 will participate.
3.Practices will be done STRICTLY during English periods only.
4.There will only be one choric piece for all to be provided by the English teachers in
the level.
5.The choral group will recite the piece using an idiot board or handling a copy of it on
their hand or however the group wish to do it using all the skills of a good dramatic
presentation. MEMORIZATION of the piece is NOT necessary.
6.Each choir shall have 20-25 participants.
7.The students will be required to use their PE uniform, however; they can reinvent
with it using RECYCLABLE MATERIALS in support of the school’s advocacy on
sustainability. Use of metallic paper and the likes is STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.
They may as well style their hair and apply light make up.
8.ZERO WASTE will be observed after the contest. Any form of trash the section will
produce, the students will dispose by themselves.
9.Time limit is four (4) minutes minimum, six (6) minutes maximum. If the presentation
exceeds the 6-minute time limit, the entry will receive one (1) point deduction from
the total score given by judges for every 1 minute exceeded performance.
10. The judges shall hop from one room to another to watch each section’s
presentation.
11. The class advisers will be requested to stay with their advisory classes from
preparation time until class dismissal. They will supervise everything as the contest
is being held.
12. No students will be allowed to change their costumes and to loiter around the lobby
of the Grade 8 classrooms until the contest is over.
13. Three sections will be declared as winners ranked as: First, Second and Third
Place respectively.
14. The judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.
15. Participants of the winning sections will get +20 pts under Recitation. Those
members of the class who served as the support team (props men and women)
will be given +15 pts under recitation as well. Non-winning sections will all get +10
pts under the same category. ALL ABSENT MEMBERS OF THE SECTION
DURING THE CONTEST DAY WILL NOT BE GIVEN ANY POINTS INCENTIVES.
16. Awards of the winning sections will be as follows:
First Place = Certificate of Recognition + trophy
Second Place & Third Place = Certificate of Recognition
17. Awarding of winners will be done during the Culminating Activity of the English
month.
18. CRITERIA for judging is as follow:
Interpretation
- manner in which the piece is 35 pts
internalized and presented
Delivery
- quality of voice, fluency, pronunciation, 30 pts
blending and harmony
Stage Presence
- stage poise, eye contact and audience 25 pts.

ACTIVITY Sing-A-Poem
Classrooms
DESCRIPTION Mechanics:

6. The class shall ADAPT THE TUNE OF A SONG THAT EXISTS OR EXISTED. NO
ORIGINAL TUNE WILL BE ALLOWED TO USE for the activity.

DESCRIPTION Mechanics:
The ultimate goal of this program is to challenge all students in every section to
consistently use the English language during class hours or even during non-
English classes anywhere inside the campus.
1. The teacher will monitor on a daily basis those students who observe the
“Speak English Campaign” especially during English period.
2. Chosen students will be recognized and awarded a certificate during the
quarterly recognition of honor students.
3. All chosen students will be given +5 point incentives on their Recitation raw
score.

DESCRIPTION Mechanics:
1.Some members of the Book Lover’s Club will be visiting each classroom of the
junior high school with permission from the subject teacher.
2.With them are best-seller books and the newly acquired books from the HSLRC
which they will present to the students. They will encourage them to read particular
books which they will describe as their favorite because the stories are short,
engaging and memorable.
3.They have 10 minutes or shorter to promote. Questions are inevitable so the
members are asked to prepare a comprehensive presentation.
4.The activity will be in coordination with the HSLRC librarians who will lend the
members as tray of books. English teachers are tasked to promote reading to their
students.
5.Rewards will be provided by the librarians and the top borrowers’ names will be
posted in the library bulletin board.
