Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your
classroom: The students are already required to be sufficient in essay wiring while in the fifth grade. This
takes their new skills and expands it beyond the walls of the classroom. To implement this in my classroom, I
will start with exploring the learning project and taking time to explain it to the students. To take this on in my
classroom, I will continue with the normal writing process. This includes pre-writing, drafting, editing, creating
the final draft and then final editing. After the whole process is over, I will start with the online learning
portion of the assignment.

During the online learning portion, the class will take a trip to the computer lab where they will work
independently to type up and edit their written essays from class. This will take about a day and a half to
make sure that everyone is typed up and correctly put together. Once this is completed we will go over in
class how to correctly upload their writing and internet safety that is involved in working online. Next the
students will upload their work to KidPub. From here they are given the oppitrunity to read and interact with
another to get some great feedback on their writings!
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom?
The project will require a computer, internet access and a camera/scanner.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be
addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their
school: The students will collaborate with one another by interacting though Kidpub, and within the
classroom before the assignment is posted. This helps to expand their information creating a richer
writing project.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or producing original
products as a result of engaging in a project): Students will write about and research things that are
interesting to them. The students have the ability to read other students’ writings as well as get
feedback on their own. They have the oppitrunity to move about freely and catch all the things that
other kids their age is writing about.

c. Higher-order thinking: Before posting their assignments, they will be required to do research and
collaborate with their peers. After this they will be required to edit and work independently to upload
and interact though KidPub. This project takes what they kids already do on a daily basis in school and
expands it out past where they were able to go before.

d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their product: The students
can post their work and find other students with writing like them. They can also get ideas and topics
by reading other students work too.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level):

☐ Level 1: Awareness ☐ Level 2: Exploration ☐ Level 3: Infusion ☐ Level 4: Integration

☒ Level 5: Expansion ☐ Level 6: Refinement

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Because we are working on the computer, we have the ability to
accommodate many more students than we were able to before. The students can have their papers read to
them, this accommodates ELL’s and students with hearing disabilities.

Lesson idea implementation and Internet Safety Policies: To ensure that kids are staying safe on the
internet it is important that the kids know what is expected. To ensure that we meet all the guidelines, I will
do a lesson in place of morning work on internet safety. Next, I will walk around and monitor the kids while
on their computer.

Reflective Practice: The internet can bring out a lot of extra opportunities for the kids to work with. To
expand it even further from where we are we can include other classes in our kid pub account. While we are
not only working with kids from other schools, we are also collaborating with students that are in our own
school.
