A New Dimension for the Raffia Industry

AN INSIGHT
LOHIA CORP LIMITED (LCL), formerly known as Lohia Starlinger Limited
incorporated in 1981, is engaged in manufacture of complete range of machines
required by the plastic woven fabric industry and is an undisputed leader amongst
machine manufacturers of this industry. At present, it is not only enjoying over
60% of market share in India, but has also earned a reputation of being the world’s
leading manufacturer of such equipment. Its projects are running successfully in
over 60 countries around the world and this accomplishment has been possible
due to the Group’s continuous emphasis on quality and innovation.

The need for trained manpower or skill development for the raffia industry has
been highlighted in various forums from time to time. To cater to the imperative
need of formal training, this centre has been set up to train and produce operators,
supervisors / production executives for the raffia industry. Thus, to improve the
technical competence of employed manpower, LCL has taken an initiative to
establish the Technical Training and Research Centre (TTRC) at Kanpur. The
notion of the ‘Technical Training Centre’ has evolved out of the LCL think-tank
to integrate ‘2Ms - Machinery & Manpower’ to exclusively support the global
raffia industry.
Why TTRC?
l To address the need of trained manpower for the
raffia industry.
l Trained operators and supervisors with hands-on

training are key for industry stability and growth.

l Operator skill plays a vital role in machine

productivity and quality.

l A trained operator ensures proper upkeep,

lowering machine maintenance cost.

TTRC has signed an MoU with the Govt. Polytechnic,
l Improved quality of produce with trained
Kanpur for conducting specialised vocational
operators and supervisors. training courses in the areas of plastic woven sack
manufacturing as a Skill Knowledge Provider (SKP).
Further, TTRC has been registered as Vocational
Training Provider (VTP) under the Skill Development
Scheme of the Govt. of India for providing modular
employable skill courses.
OBJECTIVES
l Hands-on practical training to trainees for creating employability skills as
operators / technicians, supervisors for the raffia industry.
l Act as technical training and support centre for the existing operators,
supervisors and managers of the raffia industry in India and abroad.
l Provide in-house training to internal technical staff, new recruits of the
LCL in the areas of tapeline, circular loom and bag conversion.
l Organise custom-made / tailor-made training courses for the raffia industry
in India and abroad.
l Technical guidance to new entrepreneurs through training on
machines.
