Burj Khalifa

The tallest building in the world.

Construction of the tower was started in 2004. The building was
officially opened on 4 January 2010.
Burj Khalifa was designed by Adrian Smith, then of Skidmore,
Owings and Merrill (SOM), whose firm designed the Willis
Tower andOne World Trade Center.
The decision to build the building is reportedly based on the
government's decision to diversify from an oil-based economy, and for
Dubai to gain international recognition. The building was named in
honor of the ruler of Abu Dhabiand president of the United Arab
Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Abu Dhabi and the UAE
government lent Dubai money to pay its debts.
Burj Khalifa contains offices, retail space, residential units, and a
Giorgio Armani hotel.
At ground level, the skyscraper is surrounded by green and water
spaces, and pedestrian boulevards.
The tower’s overall design was inspired by the geometries of a regional
desert flower and the Islamic architecture.

 828 meters high, it is almost three Eiffel Towers stacked on top of

each other, and that's the record for the tallest structure ever built
by man
 160 habitable floors, the last culminating at 636 meters height
 24,348 windows, for a facade entirely made of glass and aluminum
 5 years of construction, a speed record for a project of this size
 the fastest elevators in the world, 18 meters per second (64 km/h)
at its maximum speed
 95 km is the ground distance from which you can see the tower
(on a clear day)
