stand that kind of trauma. We
are nobody to say it is right or
wrong. You can’t really pass
judgement on it. All I will say is
that any kind of issue especially
the one that causes hurt and cre-
ates a trauma that lasts a life
whether it is on one person or
whole society it should not be
kept within. I don’t think
women should have ever kept
silent. I know many people are
being gracious and recognising
this, but it is probably one of the
most di�cult things for a
woman especially the one who
has been su�ering and abused.
The most di�cult thing is to
stand up and say that I have
gone through this.

New Delhi: An emergency action
plan will be implemented from
Monday to combat air pollution
that has begun to show a trend
towards very poor category, the
Central Pollution Control Board
said. Under the emergency plan
called Graded Response Action
Plan (GRAP), stringent actions
are implemented based on the air
quality of the city.
If the air quality lies in moder-
ate to poor category- measures
like stopping garbage burning in
landfills and other places and en-
forcing all pollution control reg-
ulations in brick kilns and indus-
tries would be implemented, an
o�cial said. If the air quality falls
in the very poor category, addi-
tional measures of stopping use
of diesel generator sets, enhanc-
ing parking fees 3-4 times and in-
creasing frequency of metro and
buses would be implemented, he
added.
If the air quality falls in the se-
vere category, additional meas-
ures would be implemented of in-
creasing frequency of
mechanised cleaning of roads,
sprinkling of water on roads and
identifying road stretches with
high dust generation. If the air
quality falls to severe plus emer-
gency category, then measures
like stopping entry of trucks into
Delhi (except essential commodi-
ties), stopping construction ac-
tivities and appointment of task

remained poor Sunday with drop in
wind speed, even as authorities pre-
dicted further fall in the air quality
index of the national capital in the

index (AQI) recorded at 10 am Sun-
day was 201, which falls in the poor
category, according to Centre-run
System of Air Quality and Weather
Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).
On Saturday, the AQI of the na-
tional capital stood at 300. Accord-
ing to the CPCB website, Anand Vi-
har recorded an AQI of 249, DTU

and Jahangirpuri recorded an AQI of
302, which falls in the poor cate-
gory. An AQI between 0-50 is con-

vere'. Delhi's neighbouring regions
of Faridabad and Gurgaon both
recorded poor air quality. The PM10
level (presence of particles with di-
ameter less than 10 micrometres) in
Delhi stood at 180 and the PM2.5
level was recorded at 91, according
to the data. Authorities have pre-
dicted further deterioration of air

of age up from Rs one lakh at
present,” the spokesman said. He

Hyderabad: The Telangana
Vidhya Parirakshana Commit-
tee (TVPC) has urged the polit-
ical parties to include its edu-
cation-related demands in
election manifesto.
TVPC was proposing de-
mands including allocation of at
least 20 per cent of State Budget
and 10 per cent of Central
Budget for Education, introduc-
tion of pre-primary education
in all government schools, de-
veloping every high school into
a residential school, filling of
teaching and non-teaching
posts in all government educa-
tional institutions at all levels

circular prohibiting teachers to
criticise the policies of admin-
istration and government.
In view of the ensuing Assem-
bly elections, the Telangana
Save Education Committee

education to all downtrodden
people in the State.

leaves on working days unless

drawn from them. The CJI also
decried the practice of judges

they need to prepare for the

Therefore, policies to create employment
along with an increase in population will
beget higher economic growth.
Second argument extended by UNFPA
is that standard of living declines with in-
creasing population because it becomes
di�cult for the government to provide
necessary infrastructure such as educa-
tion and roads. Again, I am not convinced.
The ability of the government to provide
infrastructure depends upon revenues
which, in turn, depends upon whether
workers are productively employed. An
employed person produces more than the
cost of services provided to him by the
government. Thus, the strategy should be
to increase population, provide them
with jobs, collect more taxes and provide
more facilities.
My assessment is that the hype about
population being a ‘problem’ has been
created by the businesses to encourage
women to enter the workforce and
thereby reduce the cost of labour and an
increase in profits. Women are preoccu-
pied with homemaking if they have more
children. Indeed, it is true that less num-
bers of births begets higher rates of eco-
nomic growth as has happened in China
till the first decade of this century. But
this is a shortsighted policy because soon
the number of workers reduces and the
growth rate su�ers as is happening in
China now. The Chinese government has
learnt this hard truth and has now made
the one-child policy a bit lenient. Only
couples who were both single child of
their parents were allowed to have a sec-
ond child. Now couples where one of the
two persons is a single child will be al-
lowed to bear another child. This step is
in the right direction. The lesson for India
is that we must focus on making eco-
nomic policies that provide employment
instead of trying to curtail population.

from data published between 2010 to 2018 to estimate the attributable
disease burden in IQ decrement and Disability Adjusted Life Years
(DALYs). The DALY is a measure of overall disease burden, expressed
as the number of years lost due to ill health, disability, and early
death. Previous studies have estimated 4.6 million lead-attributed
DALYs and nearly 165,000 deaths. The new study found that the total
could be as high as 4.9 million DALYs, or, in other words, 4.9 million
years lost due to ill-health, disability or early death as a result of the
high blood lead levels. At low levels, one microgram per deciLitre of
lead contamination in the blood causes more than half a point of IQ
decrement. For children living in India, whose blood lead level con-
tamination is at almost 7 micrograms per deciLitre, the impact on
IQ is significant, said Bret Ericson of Macquarie University. "At a so-
cietal level, the bell curve of IQ shifts to the left, with more people
falling into the intellectually disabled category, and far fewer in the
gifted category. The potential impacts on a country's productivity
and associated disease burden are, therefore, significant,” Ericson
said. India’s significantly elevated blood lead levels can in part, be at-
tributed to battery smelting, which is poorly regulated in India, re-
searchers said. “These are often processed informally with little or
no pollution controls, resulting in significant contamination across
urban areas,” he said. However, there are also other known causes of
exposure, including ayurvedic medicines, eyeliner, noodles and spices,
which continue to cause the high levels of blood lead found in chil-
dren, researchers said. The implications of exposure are extremely
detrimental, and with no evidence that the adverse outcomes remit
with age, is calling for better regulation, said Mark Taylor of Mac-
quarie University.

was braver than the first, also de-
cided that he is going to spend
the night in the house of the de-
mon that day. The first man was
already inside when the other
man came and tried to open the
door. When he pushed opened
the door, the man inside thought
the demon had come and put his
shoulder to the door to close it.
The man outside also gave his
shoulder to the door and did
everything possible to open it.
This struggle went on, both of
them thinking the demon was
on the other side. The whole
night went by in this exercise,
and when light dawned upon
them in the morning, they re-
alised they were two men, just
like each other, very similar.
There are too many situations
like this in the world. People
think they are the good guys and
that they are fighting the bad
guys. Essentially, both sides
think the other side is the bad
guy. People always believe that
they are good and somebody
else is bad. That is the only way
they can carry on their missions
in the world. The man who is la-
belled as a terrorist in the world,
thinks he is very good. The bet-
ter he thinks he is, the more hor-
rible he becomes for us. Who is
good and who is bad essentially
depends on what you have iden-
tified yourself with – whether
religion, nationality or some
other factor.
Fundamentally, every human
being first needs to work on
himself. The first and foremost
responsibility of any human be-
ing should be to take charge of
his interiority and become a joy-
ous person. When you are
happy, you are a very generous
human being, aren’t you? When
you are unhappy, you are a dan-
gerous person. So, the first and
foremost responsibility is to es-
tablish yourself as a joyous hu-
man being.
If this does not happen, with
good intentions, we will cause
great su�ering on this planet –
which is what is happening to-
day. If you do not know how to
manage your body, mind or
emotions, how will you manage
the world? If you do not know
how to take care of yourself, you
will definitely not know how to
take care of the world. So, the
first and foremost responsibility
of every human being is to inner
engineer yourself. The world de-
serves a well-engineered human
being with a fantastic sense of

A n Indian-origin man based in north-west England, who su�ers
from a degenerative eye condition, is set to become the first per-
son in the UK to get a guide horse to assist him with daily tasks once
he loses his vision completely. Mohammed Salim Patel, a journalist
based in Blackburn at Lancashire, su�ers from a condition called Re-
tinitis Pigmentosa, due to which he is left with a very small amount
of sight in his right eye and will eventually become totally blind. The
24-year-old, who su�ers from a deep-seated fear of dogs since a scary
childhood encounter, could not rely on the more commonly used
guide dogs for the blind and that is how the concept of a miniature
guide horse came to his attention. “Digby (guide horse) is still a baby
and will be two years old in May 2019. His training will take around
two more years, so I expect to be able to bring him home to Blackburn
once he's finished his training," Patel said. “There is no rush though,
as there would be for a guide dog. Digby will be able to work into his
40s, whereas a guide dog has to retire at the age of eight,” he said.
After spending some time with his companion-to-be, Patel believes
a guide horse has many added benefits over guide dogs, including a
much longer working life, 350-degree vision and ability to see in the
dark.
The story of Digby caught the attention of the annual Amplifon
Awards for Brave Britons, where the horse is among the finalists in
the Hero Pet category – aimed at honouring animals who have trans-
formed the life of their owners. The BBC journalist began working
with his local station, BBC Radio Lancashire, before moving on to
BBC North West Tonight TV after completing a Journalism Trainee
Scheme. However, it was not an easy journey, being told that a broad-
cast journalism course would be too di�cult for a blind person to
complete.

‘a shabby copy’ of its counterpart in America,
to dismiss criticisms on Twitter of her defence
of alleged sexual predators as a ‘torrent of
abuse’, and to defend her ‘friend Suhel Seth’
despite multiple accusations of sexual harass-
ment.
She feels for a Minister who could ‘lose his
job’ as junior Foreign Minister and feels noth-
ing for more than a dozen women who faced
harassment by him. The Minister is MJ Akbar
(he reportedly resigned on Sunday).
Like Tavleen Singh, there are many apolo-
gists on social media demanding, much like Is-
lamic clerics do, that the raped women produce
four witnesses. The likes of her will believe
them only when they visit courts and produce
evidences. But, #MeToo is relevant precisely
because women cannot enter police stations
and courts safely. First, our society shames the
survivors, not the rapists. Second, cops humil-
iate them in police stations. Third, lawyers seek
to demean them in courts in the presence of
male judges, lawyers and others. Patriarchy is
sexual assault.
The society is the rapist. This is the reason
women are speaking up on Twitter, not in the
society. The society teaches raped women to
commit suicide and not cause 'dishonour' to
their family by speaking up. The society teaches
them to su�er in silence, a key reason why sur-
vivors have been silent for so many years. Every
act of sexual harassment is a continuing psy-
chological trauma. The society teaches them
to keep their mouths shut. The silence has ad-
vocates in the form of Singh who draw social
boundaries for them. But, #MeToo has already
becoming relevant.
Teenagers in colleges and universities are dis-
cussing new norms of behaviour. Teachers and
principals of schools are debating. Male man-
agers in shops and o�ces are forced by #MeToo
to unlearn inherited patriarchal behaviour. Sex-
ual predators in workplaces, in the Parliament
and in social environments are terrified. A sit-
ting member of the Indian Parliament from
Karnataka was so afraid that he obtained a gag
order to silence a right-wing activist. As a result
of #MeToo, young women are acquiring atti-
tude. In sociology, attitude is girls’ empower-
ment.
Singh ridicules #MeToo in India as ‘imitative’
of the West. But, social change rarely comes
from within. Almost invariably, social change
comes from interacting with external ideas
through forces of technology, globalisation, or
wars.
Raja Ram Mohan Roy was inspired by English
equality when he opposed Sati, the widow burn-
ing. In 1776, America became the first modern
democracy. Today, most of the 193 members of
the UN are democracies or quasi-democracies.
Movements of ideas begin from one country
and spread to others. #MeToo began in America
and, like democracy, is entering Indian society
now. We cannot expect the generation of our
mothers and grandmothers to speak for
women’s rights and individual liberty. They
grew up in an era when democratic attitudes
were yet to seep into our society. In India,
democracy was imposed from the top in 1950.
Democratic ideas and attitudes are beginning
to be acquired by our next generation. It is not
incidental that most of #MeToo advocates who
are speaking fiercely are young, very articulate,
and supremely confident.
If Singh is right that everything ‘imitative’ of
the West is wrong, it would mean we should also
reject blue jeans which empower our girls, Twit-
ter which enables our women to speak up, rail-
ways which propel our women to go long dis-
tances and alone, and democracy which

Singh mocks ‘militant Indian feminists... who
burned bras when feminism was fashionable’
— but, listen ma’am, they were far ahead of their
time. Their souls would be watching #MeToo
with cosmic satisfaction.
Societies are hostile environments. Many ret-
rogressive forces on social media have dismissed
#MeToo advocates as elite, urban, educated
women. But in reality, movements of ideas and
reform do indeed originate from the educated
women living in cities and percolate into less
educated classes and in rural areas, or into Hindi
journalism. We are witnessing a trend of men
and women marrying into di�erent castes and
religions because they have acquired new dem-
ocratic attitudes after having studied in cities.
Cities give birth to self-aware individuals and
secure their liberties, while villages drown them
into caste and religious orthodoxies.
Irrespective of what happens to the survivors
in courts and police stations, merely listening
previously. #MeToo is hugely relevant because
55 percent of nearly 1.3 billion Indians are under
25 years of age. This movement is relevant more
to them than to us and our ancestors. Singh nar-
rates real stories of rapes and so-called honour
killings to murder #MeToo. Her journalistic
narration is, well, a narration designed to defend
culprits, unlike #MeToo which has emerged as
a tool of empowerment which scissors into al-
leys of our society and exposes its criminals.
Her column reveals a profound lack of un-
derstanding of how patriarchy subjugates
women in varying ways. When she talks of the
'honour' killing of a Muslim girl, there is failure
to grasp that it is patriarchy, not Islam, that is
murderous.
Many of those who are demanding proof from
#MeToo survivors will be willing to execute a
Muslim in the court of public opinion without
asking for evidence if he was falsely implicated
in a terror case. The power is male. In our soci-
ety, women are taught to succumb to the dic-
tates of men — like in the cases where women
convert to Islam to marry. It's patriarchy, not
Islam alone, because I have not seen Hindu boys
converting to Islam to marry a Muslim woman,
barring exceptions.
In our society, only a female changes to the
tunes of a man irrespective of religion.
Singh rightly observes: “More than a hundred
Indian women get raped every day, four out of
10 are children, and 94 percent of the perpetra-
tors are relatives". This is the precise reason In-
dia needs #MeToo.
She notes how after Jyoti Singh’s brutal gan-
grape, “All that we got was a stricter law. We al-
ready have too many laws.” Yes, laws don’t work
– so #MeToo is needed in Indian society. She
says “American realities are very di�erent” – no
ma’am, realities for women are everywhere the
same, their subjugation has lasted for centuries
across world.
She also notes that ‘in its Indian incarnation,
MeToo is irrelevant’ — actually, it is more rele-
vant in India than in the United States.
Singh also has grudge against liberals and
writes: “So illiberal are the ‘liberals’ leading the
MeToo movement” — a precise reason, she
should be part of #MeToo. Singh should begin
by naming the editor who told her that she had
“wasted” her time by writing a detailed report
on the gangrape of a woman by policemen in
Gujarat’s Bharuch district.
If that editor had been challenged by her, she
would be part of #MeToo in India of today. Her
article is an apologia seeking to murder the soul
of individual liberty.

Elect the right leader
E xistence of democracy in India is a remark-
able sign of our respect to individual freedom.
People have the power to elect their government
by exercising their universal adult franchise. A
few months from now, elections are about to be
held in Andhra Pradesh and only a month left for
Assembly polls in Telangana. Leaders have al-
ready started campaigning for votes from people
by using their wealth and power. We all, as Indian
citizens, should use our right to vote. But question
here is which party is the right one and to whom
should we cast our votes. As almost all parties are
promising to bring changes in towns and villages
across the State, people are a confused lot. These
parties generally do not show their faces to the
people once they come to power. Now everything
in public hand, so one should do a thorough
checking before exercising their voting rights.
They should find the right leaders and party who
are able to win and take care of the public welfare
and pay attention only in the development of the
State. My heartily request is that people should
not waste their votes by electing the wrong party.

Sabarimala issue
A lready a tense situation is prevailing in Kerala
in connection with the Supreme Court verdict
allowing the entry of women (in menstruating
age group) to the famed Sabarimala temple. Even
though the Supreme Court ordered that they
should be permitted to enter the sanctum sanc-
torum of the temple, it is to be implemented only
after convincing all the stakeholders concerned.
This is not a pure legal matter. It is connected to
not only the sentiments of devotees but also age-
old rituals. Celerity in implementing the apex
court's verdict may lead to untoward conse-
quences. So-called reformists like Trupti Desai
should observe restraint in this issue, lest the sit-
uation will become tense and may go out of con-
trol.

Padma awards
T
his is with reference to news item appeared
in The Hans India (Nearly 50,000 nomina-
tions for the 2019 Padma awards, October 12). It
is heartening to see that the Ministry received so
many nominations for the prestigious awards for
exceptional achievements in di�erent fields. It is
a good sign that common people also believe there
is a possibility of recognition of their works and
achievements. In recent years, the Padma awards
were bestowed on so many common people who
made it big in various fields though they lived in
rural areas of the country. It is a great victory of
the government that people have faith in it. The
record number of 49,992 nominations for the
Padma awards received this time is 32 times
higher than the nominations received in 2010
when just 1,313 nominations were received from
the general public. It shows that the government
machinery is full of transparency and accounta-
bility. It is no matter who will be selected for
Padma awards, but it is remarkable recognition
of participation of general public in our democ-
racy. It is also interesting to note that applicants
know how to apply and where to apply for the
Padma awards. I congratulate all the applicants
for their real spirit and enthusiasm. I also con-

The details of cotton cultiva-
tion are as follows: In Guntur
district 1.68 lakh hectares, in
Krishna district 48,000
hectares, in Anantapur district
45,000 hectares, Prakasam dis-
trict 37,000 hectares, East Go-
davari district 13,000 hectares
and Vizag district 11,000
hectares.
When the CCI purchased
cotton at Rs. 4,350 last year, it
was sold at Rs. 6,000 per quin-
tal in the open market. When
the Central government fixed
MSP for cotton Rs.5,450 in the
present season, the cotton is
price expected to go up in the
open market.
A P Cotton Association is ex-
pecting 60-lakh bales of cotton
exports to China during the
season due to increase of de-
mand for cotton in the interna-
tional market. When exporters
get orders from China, demand
for cotton will increase in the
domestic market and the farm-
ers will benefit.

got on an average 10 quintals

drought caused by deficit rain-

As a result, India will get more
exports orders from China. I

Odisha cop who led attack on Maoists awarded Ashok Chakra
New Delhi (PTI): An Assistant Commandant
of the Odisha Police's Special Operations
Group (SOG) has been conferred with the
Ashok Chakra posthumously for sacrificing
his life while fighting the Naxals, home min-
istry officials said on Sunday.
Assistant Commandant Pramod Kumar Sat-
pathy laid down his life on February 16, 2008
during a fire-fight between the security
forces and the Maoists in the Gosama jungle
of Ganjam district and adjoining areas of
Phulbani district. Keeping in view his heroism
and bravery, Satpathy was awarded with the
gallantry medal Ashok Chakra posthumously,
a Home Ministry official said. On February
15, 2008, at about 10.30 PM, more than 500
heavily armed Naxals carried out simultane-
ous and multi-pronged attacks on the police
training school (PTS) armouries located in
Nayagarh police station, two other police sta-
tions and one out post of Nayagarh and one
police station and one out post in Ganjam,
the officials said.
Naxalite cadres, many of them from Chhat-
tisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, par-
ticipated in the operation in which more than
1,200 weapons of various categories, includ-
ing sophisticated ones, were looted and 14
police personnel and one civilian lost their
lives, the official said. After carrying out the
operations, the militants retreated to the out-
lying jungle area of Ganjam and Phulbani dis-
tricts in hijacked buses and other vehicles
along with their arms and ammunition. Im-

his life when he received a call from Pakistan's top
investigation agency seeking an explanation from
him about a whopping Rs. 300 crore worth of
transactions made to his account.
The driver, identified as Muhammad Rasheed,
who lives in Karachi came to know about the huge
transactions in his account when the Federal In-
vestigating Agency (FIA) summoned him for an
explanation.
"I got a call from the FIA o�ce and they told me
to show up for questioning. I was so scared as I
didn't know what had happened," Mr Rasheed said.
"When I went to the FIA o�ce they showed me
the record of my bank account," he said.
"The FIA o�cials told me that transactions of
some 300 crore rupees were made through my
salary bank account which I had opened back in
2005 when I was working for a private company
as a driver," Rasheed said.
Rasheed said he had quit the job just after a

He said that he convinced the FIA o�cials about
his present financial conditions.
Few days back a food vendor in Karachi's Orangi

more than 200 crore rupees in his account. The
FIA is investigating large-scale money laundering
cases after the Supreme Court appointed a Joint
Investigation Unit (JIT) to probe into the matter.
The FIA is investigating several individual ac-
counts, which have been used for money launder-
ing by some influential businessmen and politi-
cians.
In many cases dormant accounts of poor people
have been activated with connivance of some bank
o�cials for huge transactions.
The JIT has been probing since September into
the money laundering cases revealing several sus-

quarter of 2017. A similar trend
was witnessed in the SME seg-
ment too. There were 19 IPOs
in the third quarter (Q3) of 2018
versus 49 IPOs in Q3 2017, rep-
resenting a significant drop of
61 per cent. "With an ongoing
volatility in equity markets
along with the rising risk of
trade-wars across different
markets, it is becoming difficult
for companies to raise equity
capital," said Sandip Khetan
Partner and National Leader Fi-
nancial Accounting Advisory
Services (FAAS), EY India.
Khetan said "companies that
were looking to tap market in
the near term should start
proactively looking for alterna-
tive sources of capital as well".
The report further cited a num-
ber of macro-economic factors
which are contributing uncer-
tainties such as, currency
volatilities (depreciation of ru-
pee), higher inflation in the US
which may compel central
banks to tighten monetary poli-
cies (increase in interest rates),
resulting in withdrawal of in-
vestments from emerging mar-
kets, back to the US.
Going forward, the IPO ac-
tivity is expected to remain
busy for the rest of the year, as
there is a strong pipeline of

RBI firm on deadline for data localisation
New Delhi: The RBI will not relax
the October 15 deadline for global
financial technology (fintech)
companies to comply with its data
localisation norms in the public in-
terest, according to sources.
The central bank in April gave
six months’ time to global payment
companies to store transaction
data of Indian customers within
India. The RBI's data localisation
norms will kick in from Monday.
However, the US wants to pro-
hibit data localisation to ensure
free flow of information across
borders. "We want to have prohi-
bitions on data localisation to en-
sure free flow of information, free

companies to give up their source

ferred internationally, and usually
transferred only after meeting lo-
cal privacy or data protection laws.
Although domestic companies
have welcomed the guidelines,
global companies fear increase in
their expenses for creation of local
servers. To avoid this rise in cost,
global companies in recent meet-
ing with the RBI proposed to pro-
vide mirror data instead of original
data to which the central bank did
not agree, the sources said.
Unlikely to hike
rates in FY19
Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India
(RBI) is not expected to hike key
lending rates in the current fiscal, an
SBI Ecowrap report said on Saturday.
"CPI inflation marginally increased
to 3.77 per cent in September 2018.
Interestingly, on a m-o-m basis, rural
food inflation has registered a de-
cline, even as headline registered an
increase," the report said. "Mean-
while, core CPI inflation declined to
5.81 per cent in September 2018
from 5.92 per cent in August 2018.
We expect CPI for FY19 at 4.2 per
cent. Our inflation trajectory projec-
tion makes us believe that rate hike
is now off the table in FY19."

Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam.
The great scientist and 11th Pres-
ident of India, Dr Kalam was born
on October 15, 1931 in a very poor
Tamil Muslim family to a boat
owner father in Ramanathapuram
district of Tamil Nadu, Dr Kalam’s
childhood was a saga of abject
poverty and predicaments. His life
was a big ordeal of sufferings and
sacrifices.
Kalam, the youngest of his five
siblings, faced numerous difficulties
of life due to bad economic condi-
tion of his family. His father earned
very meagre income from his boat
business of ferrying Hindu pilgrims
between Rameswaram to
Dhanushkodi.
And that is why the child Kalam
had to sell newspapers in his home
pilgrimage town of Rameswarma to
supplement and support the income
of his family.
Unlike general perceptions, Dr
Kalam was not a very talented stu-
dent in his childhood but he was so
earnestly curious to learn every-

sity. Kalam honoured with 7 hon-
orary doctorates from 40 universi-
ties.
Dr Kalam’s entire life has been an
ideal example of inspiration and en-
lightenment for the generations to
come. Notwithstanding his highest
echelons of post and prestige, his
simple life style, kindness, empathic
values and dedication for the hon-
esty and integrity and humble na-
ture of dealing with the common
masses drew them to him without
any fear and formality.
There goes a very real story, one
of myriad others, of his life. He was
once invited to grace as the chief
guest at the convocation ceremony

authored many books which are the
masterpieces of inspiration, high vi-
sion and ambition-to-teach-the-sky,

and Indomitable Spirit are some of
the books which have proved to be
among the best sellers across the
world and game-changer of lives of
millions of the students as well com-
mon masses on the earth planet.
The July 27, 2015 came as the very
sad day in the history of the country
when Dr Kalam collapsed delivering
a lecture on creating a Liveable
Planet Earth at the Indian Institute
of Management Shillong.
With him not died one of the great
scientists and mentors of the world
but died an institute, an organiza-
tion and a school of research, learn-
ing, enlightenment, erudition, hu-
man values and mankind.
The vacuum his demise has cre-
ated is not easy to replenish in the
ages to come but his teachings, his
undying curiosity to learn and un-
flinching flair for teaching shall al-
ways keep on showing the path to
the people in the generations to
come.
