Campus Survey Reflection

The Teaching & Learning 339 course required students to take a campus survey to

discover the individual viewpoints on the same contents. Like other students in the class, I was

required to interview three students that I know and two students I did not know well for this

survey. The survey asks each individuals on what defines culture, race, ethnicity, and stereotype

and how each of them relate to their own.

For the campus survey, I tried to get students from different cultures and perspectives so

the results will be a broader result. From the result of the survey, all of the students did indeed

have some different viewpoints on each section, however generally majority of the result was

very similar to one another. All of the students in the survey defined similar response to the

definition of each of the categories (and questions asked for each individuals). When each of the

individuals were asked to explain on what defines his or her perspective on him or herself, some

of the details were connected to one another. For example, majority of the students said that their

culture was defined by their language, food, traditions, clothing, etc., everyday things that

revolved around the world. All of the individuals, like myself, had difficulties on identifying the

difference between race and ethnicity. With a little guidance, and expressing my perspective on

the category, all the students were able to respond to my questions. As teacher, like the context,

we need to understand and recognize each of the student’s different culture and perspective.

This survey is a significant survey for the teaching course students, because it gives an

important teacher’s perspective to each students. The survey expresses that no matter where each

individual come from different cultures and perspective, each of the individual can be united and

have similar perspectives with another. In addition, each of the students have all experienced

difficulties and experienced a lifetime very similar with one another.
