WRIST
Knit one repeat of Chart 1 (12 rows). After this, start on the thumb increases. It may be
helpful to place a marker to mark the place for the increases. Note that for the right hand
mitten it's best to place the marker so that you make the increase after the marker and in
the left hand mitten so that you make the increase before the marker.

repeats of Chart1.

Knit the decreases as per Chart 2. BO the remaining 12 sts with three-needle bind-off (or
Kitchener's stitch).

THUMB
Pick up the 10 live stitches on the scrap yarn. Pick up 6 stitches from the top edge of the
thumb hole (4 stitches that were created with the backwards loop CO + one stitch on each
side). You now have 16 sts on the needles.
Knit 16 rounds.

R18: k8
R19: ssk, k2tog,ssk, k2tog
Cut yarn and pull through the remaining four stitches.
FINISHING
Soak the mittens in lukewarm water thoroughly. Carefully squeeze out excess water (do
not twist or wring), roll the mittens inside a towel and press the roll from all sides. Cut out
two pieces of thick cardboard or sheet of plastic as wide as your hand (see the example
picture below) and as long as the mittens excluding the cuff. Round the corners of the
other end and place inside the mittens so that the rounded end reaches the tip of the
mitten. Let dry overnight or as long as necessary. Weave in all ends.
