The Destructive Tornado in Matinglob

Matinglob was merely an obscured Purok of Barangay Tagdangua, Pantukan were


the source of income is only farming like coconut,
corn, cacao, root-crops, vegetables, fruits and
piggery and small poultry as well. The place is
said to be abundant in agricultural products
before the tornado came that brought a great
disaster in the place and created a big damage
that led into losing of its resources in a
meantime. CORN FIELD HITTED BY THE TORNADO

On September 14, 2015 around 4:00 in the afternoon a strong, heavy and
destructive rain poured in that place and in just least than a half of hour it created a
landslide and followed by a great flood. Many people says that it was a usual storm or
heavy rain but according to Quillano T. Sabillo a resident of Matinglob and was the
chairman of their purok, it was a huge tornado that hit mostly in maintain area that
caused into damage of the properties, landslide and the sudden flood. He stated that
before the rain starts he noticed that the clouds in the sky darken and form a whirl that
confused him. He said, “First time in my life, I saw that happened above”. He added, the
clouds gets darker and darker and after a few of minutes the heard a loud blast came
from above and pour down the heavy and strong rain specifically in the mountain area.

People of Matinglob was surprised in the coming of that kind of Tornado because
it was unforeseen for them and even the weather forecast of the PAGASA did not mention
either reported that their place can experience heavy rain it just so happened in a quick
of time that shocked them all. They did not also expect that it can cause into a big flood
of their small river because their river is just a shallow river that can be measure the deep
of it by the level of your ankle tip.
Approximately, the said incident destructed an estimated 6 hectares in sum up of
agricultural products and areas like cacao tress, corn field, vegetables, camote and many
more. It also swept 4 houses, 2 pigs and a number of chickens, thankfully no one was
reported as fatal and injured because it happened during the day.

Lacinda Cańete a resident and one of the 4 families who lose their house feel
downcast of what had happened. Their house is just 8 meters away from the river side,
not too near to enclosed with the flood. She said, “I did not expect that it happened to
our house and family but thankfully it just our house not my family member”. Moreover,
she added that if the incident happened during the night possibly that many people will
die and they will also included to be washed away due to suddenness that happened in a
very short of time, they did not even prepare and packed well their belongings because if
they do they will die. The flood swept their house away without a trace of things left. It
was said to be the hugest flood happened in Matinglob since it was founded in 1950.

After the incident the municipality of Pantukan and Baranggay Tagdangua and
Magnaga collaborated in giving of relief goods to the evacuees of 63 persons in highly
affected in landslide, 19 in moderate, 53 for highly affected by flood, 27 for moderate, 9
for low and also they gave housing fund for the 4 families amounting to 15,000 pesos.

THE SHALLOW RIVER OF MATINGLOB


Months after, many organization
collaborated and assisted the place; one of
it is Tagdangua Upland Farmers
Association (TUFA). The organization was
hereby registered in Department of Labor
and Employment (DOLE) on November 24,
2016 as a worker’s association in the
CORNMILL
Philippines, vested with legal personality
and all rights and privileges appurtenant thereto, to act as the representative of its
members for purpose of promoting mutual aid and protection, subject to the provision of
existing laws and regulations relating to workers association. It was already assisted
before it fully registered. On July ,25 2017 Small Coconut Farmers Association (SCFA) also
supported by giving coconut seedlings, cacao seedlings, fertilizers and checks converted
into cash for labouring fund for its plantation. The said organization is also called as
Philippine Coconut Association (PCA). TUFA with the collaboration of KALAHI and Bottom
Up Budgeting (BOD) allotted fund for the construction of solar drier with storage &
provision of corn Sheller that cost 303,077 and bought a corn mill amounting to 848,000.
The Department of Agriculture also cooperated by providing Cacao seedlings and
implementing Farming Field School that provides education in planting ginger, mais and
cacao. It last for about for 4 months 1 meeting every week in total of 16 days in the 4
months.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of


Comval together with Barangay Risk Reduction and Management Commitee launched a
program for flood awareness known as Flood Drill on October 12, 2018 in barangay
tagdangua. This program was evaluated by the National Risk Reduction and Management
Council (NRRMC) of Manila. The primary purpose of the PDRRMC is to formulate and
implement a comprehensive and integrated disaster risk reduction plan and to be
responsible for the coordination and implementation of disaster management across the
planning, incident and recovery phases. They educated people prone to flood to be aware
what to do during the calamity. Matinglob was the center of the program. The program
was very helpful in disaster preparedness of the place.

People in Matinglob still firm in facing the life. Even the calamity damaged their
properties, it can't destroyed their hope to raise again, by the virtue of hardwork,
determination, unity and perseverance they believed that they can stand out again.
Moreover, nowadays the place of Matinglob were fully recovered and improved a lot.
They have been the big source of agricultural products in the market place and during the
Tabu. Calamity is not a handrace
