Acknowledgment

The success and final outcome of this project required a lot of guidance and assistance from
many people and we are extremely privileged to have got this all along the completion of my
project. All that we have done is only due to such supervision and assistance and we would

Introduction

Malaysia secured independence from the British Empire in. Back then the country was a poor
nation relaying only on agriculture produce. People lived with just basic amenities and the
standard of living was low. Malaysia then was a typical poor and backward third world
nation. However, the passion for a better standard of living has driven Malaysian to become a
progressive nation within a short period time of just over a few decades. The below short
passage found on Wikipedia summarized this extraordinary phenomenon that Malaysia has
experienced for her economic success. In its independence, Malaysia has had one of the best
economic records in Asia, with its growing at an average of 0.1% per annum for almost 2
years. The economy has traditionally been fuelled by its natural resources, but is expanding in
the sectors of science, tourism, commerce and medical tourism. Today, Malaysia has a newly
industrialized market economy, ranked third largest in "Southeast Asia and 26Th largest in the
world.

The government has also simultaneously announced that creativity and innovation has
become part of the nation’s agenda. The government intended to formulate a new economic
model based on creativity and innovation. This new government policies and initiatives are
aimed at creating a competitive economy via strategic public and private collaborations. The
government hopes that business e-callous which incorporates the integration of products and
services innovation processes will enable firms to build innovative capabilities and venture
into the global market. Ultimately, through this new agenda for creativity and innovation, the
government hopes to see add value to the economic growth.

Product Name and Description

We do care about the meaning behind a name and that is why we are longing to make sure
that our product name has a meaningful history behind it yet we keep it as simple as we can
so that it can be easily remembered by our potential customers. Because we create a product
in home applicants industry, a washing machine, specifically, we do fancy words that related
to cleanliness.

Therefore, we create something new called “Schone”. Schone itself is derived from Dutch
means clean and also Venus. The reason why we chose this name for our product is because
it is related with cleanliness, simple, and also ear-catching.

Schone is a manual—pedal-powered—and non-electric washing machine that made from


recycled plastics such as bucket and mop spinner which can be an alternative to traditional
handwash that required a lot of energy. While traditional handwash require hands to wash the
clothes, Schone is using spinner from recycled mop spinner to clean it instead. The spinner
works as close as the electrical washing machine’s spinner works, however it is different by
size and scale. Schone works when the user can simply pull the pedal by foot lightly to make
the spinner spins and wash the cloth effectively.

We do believe that Schone can compete well in the industry whereby it is already have strong
competitors, especially from the electric washing machine ones. This is because we provide a
brand new experience for the users so it will be the main attraction of the product. The
benefits and advantages of using Schone that will be stated later are also our strengths to
market Schone to the buyers.

Schone can be operated by putting water to the bucket as the user needs and put the clothes
with detergent or softener afterwards. After that, the user can close the bucket lid and push
the pedal to make the spinner works. There is no time limit to use this product. However, we
do recommend to pull the pedal for approximately three minutes for small quantity of fabrics
and about five minutes for greater quantity. The product lifetime is relative on how the user
use the product. As long as they do not too strong push the pedal, Schone will work until
three years or more.

Schone comes with an all-in-one product so it is a one time purchase. We haven’t make any
accessories to support the efficiency of using Schone. However, we do care about the
customer’s needs and willing to upgrade Schone as time goes by.

What makes our product unique?

If we go through internet, we may find a lot of similar products that has the same concept
with Schone. However, we are proudly call ourselves different because we create Schone
with benefits such as:

1. Space-saving. Schone just sized as a regular bucket and it can be placed anywhere in
the corner of your bathroom and it won’t make the space any smaller. It suit everyone
who live in small compartment and have to keep things as simple as they can or
anyone who just want to make their house more spacy.
2. Environmentally friendly. Our raw materials are made from recycled plastics which
means we do care about the plastic wastes that have been piled up in landfill and the
ocean and we do want to reduce it as much as we can. Besides, by using Schone, the
user will use lesser water rather than traditional hadwash or even washing machine.
So that the water wastes amount are much lesser than the washing machine’s.
3. Energy-saving. Schone use no electric so it is way cheaper than electrical washing
machine which means it will reduce the electricity bill. In addition, Schone using a
comfortable pedal so that the human energy will needed a little to push the pedal
unlike the traditional handwash that require a lot of energy to do it.
4. Time-saving. When you are using a washing machine, you have to wait for
designated times until your clothes are cleaned thoroughly. However, Schone has no
time limit to wash your clothes. It is all up to the user’s preferences.
5. Lower cost than the electric washing machine. It is obvious as we are a manual-
operated washing machine that require no complicated procedures in the process
making until it become a finished goods.

Resources Used

Schone is a minimalist yet innovative manual washing machine that trying to maximize
the usage of unused plastic wastes. Our resources may seem simple and easily made as
do-it-yourself. However, it is not as simple as that. It requires special skill of using tools
to make Schone. Our resources are only consist of two items which are a plastic bucket
and a pedal-powered mop bucket.

The Creation Process

Hereby we explain about the making process of Schone from unused plastics into a pedal-
powered washing machine.

Material(s):

1. A bucket (small size)


2. A mop bucket with pedal

Tools:

1. Screwdriver
2. Drill
3. Shot glue

Creation Process:

1. Firstly, we have to
unscrew the bottom part
of the bucket (picture is
not included). After that,
we unscrew the bottom
part of the mop bucket,
then we open the secure
lid so that the spinner can
be easily removed.

2. After that, we can pull out the


pedal from the mop and take out
the spinner also so it is separated
from the mop bucket completely.

4. Because we will attach a


bucket to the mop bucket, we
then widen the diameter of the
secure lid because we intended to
put back the lid to its place again.

5. Thirdly, we make a hole in a


bucket with a drill in diameter
approximately 3 cm so that it can
fit the mop bucket.

6. After that, we put the secure lid


back to the mop bucket and after
that attach the red bucket into the
mop bucket. We do glued the
edged of hole with hot glue so
that the water won’t spill.

7. After the hot glue is dry, we


put the spinner into the mop from
the upper side and put back the
pedal from the bottom side.

8. Lastly, we put back the screw


into it place again and using drill
to tighten them.

Here is the final product that can


be readily sold to the market.

As for the materials, we get the needed mop bucket from online marketplace, Lazada. The
delivery of the product is less than a week. For other materials, we got them directly from
shops in Changlun Market to get lower price rather than in supermarket.

For production, we have made a contract with a third party that capable to make the product
as we expected and they also have all the tools needed. The third party is a nearby wooden
workshop in front of Sekolah Bandar Baru Sintok, located near EDC Hotel UUM. They will
attach the product and smoothen it so it looks like a complete product. The reason why we
chose this workshop is because it is the nearest from UUM so it will lower the transportation
cost from UUM to the workshop.

Target Market

Our product name is Schone. It function is washing clothes by manpower and is very easy to
carry.

So our target market first focus on the students, the students don’t have enough time to
washing their own clothes by hand, and if they Take the clothes and wash them in the laundry
not only to spend money but also waste of time to take the clothes go and back and need to
wait in front of a person to wash clothes, and usual provide students washing clothes need so
many machine and the machine working time so large every day, so very likely that machine
will not working. The one more thing is the laundry need to accept many students coming to
washing clothes every day, so if you coming late should spend large to wait. But now if they
have one Schone, just only at their washing room they can washing your clothes every day.
Don’t need spend money and time to go to not near laundry, and so can exercise body every
day.

Our second target market is people who just got into the job, they are new members of
society. Don’t have so much money to buy their own house usual rent. So no need to buy
washing machine use large money and put on rent house, and the usual washing machine is
big and need large water and electricity. Its need to pay other type money. But the people
who just got into the job usual don’t want use money for that. Other way, because they just
into the job so they should to learn so much skill of job and to build new relationship with
new colleague. So they also don’t have time to focus on the thing for life. The washing
clothes is small and important thing, and it relation their heath. So we believe our product can
help them so solve that upset.

Last our target market is poor family, that family don’t have money to buy the washing
machine, usual use them hands to washing all family member clothes, it so much hart to the
hands. Our product can help they release their hands.

Distribution and Promotion Strategy

Our initial focus will be in UUM and Sintok, Kedah. We will start by using a direct
channel because we want to have access to our customer and keep all revenue under the
control of the company. Direct sales will let us do our market research and choose our own
customers while setting the selling price (Markgraf, 2017). We will also use social media like
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Once we secure our first client successes, we want to
distribute our widely and nearly in all locations, we will expand to other regions which we
are already looking into. Our locations and focus will expand as we add new consultants to
our talent pool. And also it’s been shown that the best method of advertising is through word-
of-mouth. Upon commencement of operations, we will provide quality products and make
sure our product is clean and not damaged. We will also add value to our product or service
sold through providing additional services to our customers. Free installation cd video on

In today’s world, communication goes beyond specific promotion tools. The product’s
design, its price, the shape, color of its package and the stores that will sell it- all
communicate something to the buyers. Hence, we coordinated the entire marketing mix of
promotion, product, price, place for the greatest communication impact. We want our brand
contact to deliver a message and their impact can be positive, negative or neutral on the
consumer. Therefore, we want to deliver a consistent positive message at all contact points.

No major newspaper ad campaign is planned. However, we shall run weekly specials. In


addition, we shall have an incentive program for referrals. Those customers who refer
someone else to the store will be rewarded, and the referee will receive an introductory gift.
In addition, we will ensure a clean environment, reliable machines, and friendly, prompt
services.

We will use a number of relationships to promote our mini washing machine through social
media,(UUM N.E.W. S.E.E.D, UUM market) we will make contacts with key Venture
Capitalists, small business founders, and small businesses resources in the area. Once we
have helped our first few clients, we will then explore relationships with other networks.
Participating in local chambers of commerce will also help us to get increased exposure. In
every method of communication, we will constantly reinforce our differential advantage.

We will set our mini washing machine apart from the competition, it is our commitment to
provide professional, friendly, prompt, and, most importantly, convenient services to our
customers.

Mail order is a low-cost distribution channel that will be convenient for our customers. We
will use mail order by buying mailing lists or placing ads in a suitable publication. We will
send out material to a mailing list, fliers and other materials. The mailing list has to target the
demographic groups that we expect will purchase our products. With time, we can create our
own mailing lists complete with customer profiles and preferences.

A channel that is disruptive to the traditional ways of marketing and distribution is the
online channel. Our online selling features will remove intermediaries, while still reaching
large groups of potential customers. We are cutting out the middle man while retaining the
ability to sell to a broadly-based market makes online sales particularly attractive. Harnessing
social networks, online ad campaigns and message boards to spread the word, we want to
achieve substantial sales volumes quickly.

In addition, there are several ways that we will do to widen our marketing tactics, such as:

 Giving special offers for events such as Aidil Fitri and Diwali to
increase sales.

 Provide package or special packs especially for events such as birthday


or newlyweds.

 Offers trial products for new customers to try at their home.

Pricing Strategy

Because our target market is students, people who just got into the job and poor family.
They are not have so much money and our target is no fixed place to stay, maybe three
mouths or half years they will move they stay to new place, because change job or go to
different school to study. So our product price cannot be too high. And our product focus on
public market, we believe our customer will be large so we don’t need get benefit for each
product. And consider today wash machine market is enough full. Our product competitor
will be so much, so we want win to their just two ways, one is our product and service quality
to be high more than. Other is our price more than suitable our target customers.

We also need consider our cost, our product element is motor, one nice quality bucket,
rotate shaft, pedal, etc. and including our wisdom and hard work. Also we should increase
some cost to traffic and transport and after sell service. Base on that we decide our product
price is RM 99. This price not too high, now everyone can buy it. And our benefit also not
too large but we can base sell more and more, small profits but quick turnover. For
customers, they spend a little bit money buy this product when they use half year and more
they should move stay, they don’t worry about how to deal with it. Because after that times
our product use value already more than spend value.

Last, when some special days coming like some holiday and school day. We will be provide
some discount for special customers.

Furthermore, we do have special pricing for selected events such as:

 Give special discount price for every seasonal celebration such as Hari
Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali, Christmas, and selected days

 Give introductory pricing for each new product released

 Provide regularly commissions to buyers by ranks (e.g. for every


purchase of RM 500 and above will get 20% of commission)

machine that has competitive advantage than us, we have to lower the cost to attract the buyer. For using that
strategy, we have to calculate our production cost, administrative cost, and also profit. But of course we won’t
make that much profit because we have to lower the cost. Therefore, we come out with our retail price of RM
99 for early price. It will increase once our product quality is improved.

Conclusion

In recent decades, by the huge impact of globalization, Malaysia Is moving forward from
agriculture country to manufacturing country. This changing is affected by the improvement
of quality of life. In order to fulfill that, the creativity and innovation is needed to add value
to home country’s products or local business. Therefore, we would also want to participate by
producing Schone, a pedal-powered washing machine that made from recycled plastics such
as bucket and mop spinner which can be an alternative to traditional handwash that required a
lot of energy. Schone has a lot of competitive advantage from its competitors such as space-
saving, environmental friendly, energy saving, time saving, and also lower cost option. Our
resources are only consist of two items which are a plastic bucket and a pedal-powered mop
bucket, while the creation process is made by the third-party under our control. Our potential
customers are vary but focused on students and low-income family. Therefore, our product is
being sold at the market for only RM 99. In conclusion, Schone is an alternative to traditional
handwash that required a lot of energy and also an expensive electrical washing machine.
