A Single-P hase Grid-Connected Photovoltaic

Inverter Based on a Three-Switch Three-Port

Flyback with Series Power Decoupling Circuit

Abstract:
This paper presentsa novel single-stage three-port inverter that conn ects photovoltaic
(PV) panel to a single phase po wer grid is introduced. In single-phase grid connected PV panel,
the input power is constant duri ng the line–frequency period while the output p oweroscillates at
double-line frequency. A series active power decoupling circuit utilizing thin f ilm capacitors is
incorporated to a conventional fly back inverter to handle input and output p ower differences.
Therefore, popularly low reliab le electrolytic capacitors are replaced with small, long lifetime
thin film. The proposed inverter can extract the maximum power from PV, deliver a low THD
sinusoidal current to the output, and decouple the input and output powers. The proposed power
decoupling circuit shares the inv erter main switch. Thus, these functions are achieved using just
three switches and a simple control scheme which is applicable for bo th charging and
discharging states.
Existing method:
The existing method desc ribessome active power decoupling methods ha ve
beenproposed to overcome this problem. In t he output-side power decoupling, the decoupling
capacitor is usually embedded in the invert er stage and bidirectional switches are required. In a
three-leg current source inverter has been implemented, where the third leg is respo nsible for
power decoupling. A voltage source version of this inverter a differential buck converter is
designed in which filter capacitors are connected to output terminals and negative dc bus in order
to store pulsating energy. H-bridge inverter wherein two decoupling capacitors are pla ced
between the midpoint and one end of each in verter leg.

Proposed method:
The proposed method proposesa new single-stage ac module w ithseries power decoupling
input and output power differen ces using small thin film capacitors and a modified three-switch
three-port flyback converter. Itrealizes power decoupling with just three switches and
threediodes. To the best of our knowledge, it has the least number of switches among the
inverters and micro inverters proposed.

Drawbacks of existing met hod:
1. Electrolytic capacitors ha ve high energy density, their reliabilities are lo w.
2. Electrolytic capacitors lifetime are relatively short compared with the PV panels.
Advantages of proposed m ethod:
1. Ithas a simple structure, where only one diode and one capacitor are adde d to the
transformer secondary wiinding to implement the power decoupling funct ion.
2. It can implement MPPT,i nject a sinusoidal current to the grid, and perform
power decoupling using just thr ee switches.
3. The circuit operates indiscontinuous conduction mode (DCM) which ben efits a
simple control algorithm and soft switching technique.
Applications:
PV lowpower decentralized applications
