INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

AIM OF INTERNSHIP

The students are expected to go through the process of internships for understanding law
in its practical shape. Classroom study can help in grasping the law from text books but
its actual knowledge comes from the field i.e. judicial and quasi judicial institutions
where the public is coming to obtain justice of their part.

It aims to teach professional skills, essential aspects of professional ethics and social
responsibility issues and management of challenging situations in practical and
professional life.

The following guidelines apply to the internship programme:

1. The students can go for an internship with the Judicial Magistrates, reputed law
firms, NGOs and senior lawyers of good repute.
2. Organization for Internship is required to be approved by the school before
proceeding for internship, failing which the internship will be considered invalid.
3. The students are not supposed to join their relatives or near friends for internship
programme.
4. Students are supposed to receive authority letter from the university and that must
be delivered to the concerned authority where the student is going for internship.
5. A letter of confirmation duly signed by the Supervising official, certifying the
date of commencement of training must be submitted to the school within one
week of start of the training (by email or hard copy).
6. Students are to maintain an internship diary in which daily experiences
concerning internship should be mentioned in chronological manner.

7. Internship diary would need to be submitted within one week of completion of the
internship.
8. The students are also subject to surprise checking by the University authorities. In
case of the absence from place of internship or any unsatisfactory report by the
supervising official, internship is liable to be cancelled and students will have to
undergo training programme again.
9. The student should bring a certificate of completion from the Organization of
internship duly signed by the Supervising Official. The certificate must be
obtained on the official letterhead, duly signed and stamped specifying the
training period and observations regarding conduct of the candidate along with
assessment out of 20 marks on the prescribed Performa (Annexure II), in a sealed
envelope.

Internship Diary

Students should compulsorily prepare a date wise diary to maintain a record of


internship. Pages must be properly numbered and dated. It must contain the
following:-

(a) Day’s plan.


(b) No. of cases attended
(c) No. of pending cases
(d) Briefs of the cases decided
(e) Dissenting judgment, if any
(f) Daily observations about legal processes and proceedings.
(g) Day’s activity(if not visiting courts)
(h) Learning of the day
(i) Daily observations about social implications of proceedings or issues attended
to.

Presentation on internship

The students will be expected to make a presentation on the basis of work done
during the internship. The presentation should contain the following:
a) Name of the organization for internship.
b) Certificate for internship.
c) Acknowledgements
d) List and classification of all cases attended as per the following format.
a. General sections involved
b. Variety of law points/ legal issues
c. No. of decisions delivered by the authorities
d. No. of cases Appealed in Higher Court
e) Classification of cases attended
a. No. of criminal cases
b. No. of civil cases
c. Family law disputes
d. Etc.
f) Learning relating to important law points,
g) Learning relating to proceedings
h) Reasoning of Dissenting opinion
i) Social impact of cases handled during internship.
j) Learning relating to client handling
k) Learning relating to client counseling

CODE OF CONDUCT
The students should observe the following guidelines while their summer training.
1. Adhere to a formal dress code.

2. Be punctual in attendance.

3. Avail leave only if authorized by the project head/industry supervisor.

4. Adhere to organization’s policies and rules.

5. Use appropriate professional language in communication at workplace.

6. Avoid any conduct that may cause embarrassment or disrepute to the School or the
organization.

7. Assure that all actions and behaviors promote the favorable image of the
organization.

8. Not taking any action which disrupts the normal functioning of the organization.

9. Follow all the guidelines and policies of the organization as specified from time to
time during the tenure of training.
