Types of UV rays and its effect on human skin

The sun gives out ultraviolet (UV) radiation rays are divided
into three categories based on their wavelength.

 UVA rays long wavelength (320-400nm)

 UVB rays medium wavelength (280-320nm)
 UVC rays short wavelength (280nm and below)

While shorter wavelength are the most damaging to skin, UVC rays are absorbed
by the ozone layer and never reach the earth. Therefore, UVA and UVB rays with
longer-wavelength have the potential to cause the most harm to skin

UVA activates the melanin stored in the epidermis, and produces a pigmentation
effect visible within one hour but usually fades in 24 hours. UVA penetrates
deeper into dermis, where connective tissue, blood vessels and collagen exist.
The result is a loss of elasticity that causes the skin to sag, wrinkle, and age
prematurely. In a study done by Australian researchers in March 2004 found that
UVA rays can lead to cellular changes where this layer of cells that is responsible
in the regeneration of skin cells and it is feared that damage to the DNA of these
cells may increase a person's risk of developing skin cancer.

UVB penetration primarily remains at the epidermis level and is the main cause
of skin cancer. However a large dose of UVB radiation will cause acute sunburn,
redness and burning sensation. UVB rays stimulate the formulation of melanin,
causing a significant pigmentation of the skin. This darkening effect will be
evident after approximately 24 hours and is relatively long-lasting
Types of UV rays protection in skin care

1) The SPF (Sun protection factor) is the amount of UV radiation required to

cause sunburn on skin with the sunscreen on, relative to the amount required
without the sunscreen. So, wearing a sunscreen with SPF 50, your skin will not
burn until it has been exposed to 50 times the amount of solar energy that would
normally cause it to burn. The higher the SPF, the more protection a sunscreen
offers against UVB.

2) PA stands for protection grade of UVA systems and is the Japanese

measurement of sun protection, which is based on the Persistent pigment
Darkening (PPD) reaction reading at 2-4 hours of sun exposure. It is a method
of measuring UVA protection similar to SPF method of measuring UVB light
protection.

There are 3 levels of protection:

 PA+ provides UVA protection with a factor of PPD 2-4

 PA++ provides moderate UVA protection with a factor of PPD 4-8
 PA+++ provides UVA protection with a factor of PPD >8 (greatest
protection)

Regardless of skin type and ethnicity, everyone needs to use a sunscreen. The
benefits of using sunscreen when heading outdoors are well established. It
protects the skin from over exposure to the harmful effects of the sun, prevention
of prematurely aging skin and defense against future skin cancer.
The solution to protect skin from damaging sun rays

Using state of the art science of nanotechnology, Living Proof Multi Protection
Day Cream SPF50/PA+++ is a must have next generation encapsulated
sunscreen. Suncat DE is the ultimate skin’s protection against damaging
environmental conditions by reflecting or scattering both UVA and UVB.

The easily dispersed SunCat encapsulated sunscreen provides uniform

protection and stays on the surface of the skin where it is needed the most. The
encapsulation prevents UV filters from making direct contact with skin cells, this
means the UV filters does not get absorbed into the skin and does not cause
allergy. Multi Protection Day Cream with SPF50/PA+++ results in a smooth, non-
greasy and elegant feeling finish that will last the whole day.
Its lightweight and non greasy formula contains Walnut Seed extract which is a
well known powerful anti-oxidant. It focuses on strengthening the skin’s own
defense system against photo ageing and premature ageing induced by the
harmful UV radiation. While improving skin’s texture, resiliency and clarity, Phyto
Placenta moisturizes and regenerates tired and dull skin

Living Proof Multi Protection Day Cream is clinically tested and is appropriate for
all skin types. It does not contain nine ingredients or chemicals that harms the
skin commonly found in other skin care products

 Paraben
 Artificial fragrance
 Artificial coloring
 Alcohol
 SLS cleansing agent
 Mineral oil
 Comedogenic ingredients
