You can solve this question using cyclicity:

3^1 = 3

3^2 = 9

3^3 = 27

3^4 = 81

3^5 = 243

3^6 = 729

if you observe that the last digit after 3^4 get repeated. So, the cyclicity of 3 is 4 which
means:

last digit of the form 3^(4k+1) =3

last digit of the form 3^(4k+2) =9

last digit of the form 3^(4k+3) =7

last digit of the form 3^(4k) =1

3^49 = 3^(48 + 1) so last digit will be 3

Unit digit of 3^1 = 3
Unit digit of 3^2 = 9
Unit digit of 3^3 = 7 (as 3^3 = 27)
Unit digit of 3^4 = 1 (as 3^4= 81)
Unit digit of 3^5 = 3 (as 3^5 = 243)
We can see after 4th power pattern starts repeating.
So 4th, 8th, 12th,. . . Powers have unit digit 1.
From the above argument
3^ 48 have unit digit 1.
3^49 = 3^48 × 3^ 1
To find unit digit of 3^49, we multiply unit digits of 3^48 and 3^ 1 i.e. 1× 3 = 3
Hence unit digit of 3^49 is 3.

The unit digit of any positive integer is the remainder obtained upon division by [math]\:10.

[math]\: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \:3^2\equiv -1 \:(mod\:10)[/math]

[math]\implies ({3^2})^{24}= 3^{48}\equiv (-1)^{24}=1 \: (mod\:10)[/math]

[math]\implies 3^{49} \equiv 3 \:(mod\:10)[/math]

[math]\implies [/math]The unit digit of [math]\:3^{49}\:[/math]is [math]\:3\:

Let's see 3^1=3

3^2=9

3^3=27

3^4=81

3^5=243, 3^6=729,3^7=2187

Now look at unit places of the numbers

They are 3,9,7,1,3,9,7….

Basically they are periodic, i.e.

3^(4n)= 1 at unit place

3^(4n+1)= 3 at unit place

3^(4n+2)= 9 at unit place

3^(4n+3)= 7 at unit place

We have to find number at unit place for 3^49

49= (4×12)+1 i.e. 4n+1, hence it has 3 at unit place.

3^1=3. 3^2=9. 3^3=27. 3^4=81 then and again
2/3
3^5 ends with 3, 3^6 ends with 9, 3^7 ends with 7 and 3^8 ends with 1.

So if we follow this repetition 49= 12*4+1 then 3^49 has the same units digit as 3^1 which is
3.

The unit's digits of the powers of 3 follow a cyclical pattern: (3, 9, 7, 1) because the powers
are (3, 9, 27, 81), (243, 729, 2187, 6561), etc.

3^49 will be the first in the 13th such set of 4 each and therefore the units digit will be 3.
