UNITY STATEMENT

CREATION OF AN ALLIANCE OF PROFESSIONALS FOR THE

REPEAL OF CPO (Continuing Professional Development)
LAW of 2016
We, professionals, along with groups, organizations and Institution s representing
various professions, believe that the practice of our respective professions must be for
the ser.·ice of the Filipino people, first and foremost, the same principle that should
guide our aspiration for professional growth and development;
AWARE that professionals who passed the national board of examination s are
registered with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and subsequently
issued their respective professional licenses to legally practice;
RECOGNIZING that the PRC as the national professional regulatory body has the
mandate to monitor and regulate the various professions to ensure that the highest
standards of and competencies for professional practice are maintained in service of the
Fi!ipino people and country;
BELI EV ING that the needs of the Filipino people must be the principal basis and
consid eration in the identification of specific skills, knowledge and behaviour for
planning and implementing professional career development programs;
ALARMED that Republic Act 10912 or the CPO Law of 2016 wi!l only serve to further
exploit the Filipino professionals who have long suffeied from and continue to be
burdened with low/inadequate salary, heavy workload, job insecurity, unemployment,
underemployment and worsening economic cnsis;
CONCERNED that the CPO LAW of 2016 will be a medium for the following :
Money-making, graft and corrupt business practices victim izing professionals;
Facilitate the exodus of professionals, depnving the Fi!ipinos. especially the poor, of
important and essential services;
Undue burden to professionals who opt to work in the country;
- Deplete the already meager salaries of some professionals to pay for costly CPO
seminars , trainings and other similar development sessions.
THEREFORE, we, as professionals of vanous regu lated professions affected and
disadvantaged by Republic Act 10912 commit to unite and form an alliance to be
named ALLI ANCE OF PROFESSIONALS for the REPEAL of CPO LAW OF 2016
effective this 6th day of June. 2018.
