FIRST SUMMATIVE EXAMINATION 2018
SUBJECT: FIRST LANGUAGE ENGLISH (0500)

The students of Grade 10 will be tested on both the language papers; Paper2-Reading Passages and Paper3-
Directed writing & Composition.
PAPER 2: READING PASSAGES PAPER 3: DIRECTED WRITING &
COMPOSITION

PAPER 1 : Poetry and Prose


TIME : 1 hour 30 minutes
TOTAL MARKS : 50 marks

PAPER STRUCTURE:

1. Candidates should answer two questions: one from Section A (Poetry) and
one from Section B (Prose).
2. All questions carry equal marks (25 marks each).
3. There is a choice of two questions on each text.

Paper 6 Alternative to Practical

Assessment Objectives: This paper will test assessment objective AO3.

Paper 2: Multiple Choice Duration: 45 minutes Weightage: 30%

A multiple-choice paper consisting of 40 questions of four-choice type, one mark for each.
Questions will be based on the Extended syllabus content [Core and Supplement].

Paper 4: Extended Theory Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes Weightage: 50%

Written paper consisting of 80 marks of short-answer and structured questions. Questions will
be based on the Extended syllabus content [Core and Supplement]. At least a quarter of the
marks available will be based on Core material and the remainder on Supplement.

Paper 6: Alternative to Practical Duration: 1hour Weightage: 20%

Written paper consisting of 40 marks of 2 to 4 questions. Questions will be based on


experimental skills.
