Research Projects
2005 – 2009 Research Assistant, Literacy Achievement Research Center. Supported
by Dr. Rand Spiro. Investigating the underlying technological and cognitive
affordances of advanced and extended use of the Web for learning in complex
domains. Work included literature review, participation as a subject, data
collection, data analysis, author on two book chapters, and author on two papers.

2005 – 2007 Research Assistant, National Center for Case Study Teaching in
Science. Supported by Dr. Mary Lundeberg. This National Science Foundation
(NSF) funded project involved the dissemination of case study teaching in science
at a national level through workshops, conferences, and online support groups.
My work included research, writing, and data analysis for published papers,
AERA presentations, NSF applications and reports, and an online literature
review resource for faculty using PBL and cases in science. Most recent work
involved analysis of clicker use in large undergraduate classrooms in association
with case-based teaching.

2005 – 2006 Research Assistant, Michigan State University. Supported by Dr. Matthew
Koehler, through PT3 grant from U.S. Department of Education. I analyzed and
edited video interviews of the Michigan Association for Computer Users in
Learning (MACUL) Technology for Authentic Problem Solving (TAPS) winners
from 2004 through 2006. The final products were intended to provide online
case-based resources for pre-service and in-service teachers to facilitate their
technology integration training.

grant writing, bond planning, technology plan updates, transition support, and
advice for both short- and long-term academic and infrastructural technology
decisions.

MI. Provided general management of academic and infrastructural technology
needs for more than 5500 students and 1200 computers. Redesigned technology
plan/philosophy and researched solutions to support data driven decision-
making.

and technology research, analysis and advice to startup software company.

1995-2004 Director of Technology, Friends Academy, Locust Valley, NY. Taught


technology courses, supported technology integration across divisions and
disciplines, managed technology faculty and staff, designed software, provided
network support, administered technology-based professional development, and
assumed administrative responsibilities at this pre-K-12 independent school.

1993-1995 Staff Economist, Economic Consulting Services, Inc., Washington,


D.C. Supported the representation of clients in trade arguments at the
International Trade Commission and Trade Administration. Primary
responsibilities were economic research, spreadsheet/database/graphical
analysis, and subsequent integration into formal arguments and rebuttals.

D.C. Worked as an intern for one term during my senior year of undergraduate
education, concurrently writing a thesis that evaluated the effects of proposed
changes to international trade laws. Invited to return as a researcher to provide
programming, research, and data analysis.

Awards/Honors
2008 - Part of the team for an award winning online class at MSU. Won the 2008 MSU-AT&T
Instructional Technology Awards Competition for our course TE150: Reflections on
Learning. The award responds “to the growing use of online technologies for instruction” and recognizes
“and encourage best practices in the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning.” I was one of the
TAs in both semesters this year, and also helped with design/re-design/updates to the course.
