Communities

Sydney Battle

Competency 9
9.1 Select and use appropriate methods for evaluations of
outcomes

● Many of the case managers use the SSD model

● Does the client have housing when the helping
relationship ends?
● Social workers pick the appropriate method based on
clients and their situation.
Competency 9
9.2 Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social
environment, person-in-environment, and other
multi-disciplinary theoretical frameworks in the evaluation
of outcomes.

● Even if the outcome doesn’t look like a big victory to

me, it’s big for the client
● Everyone is going to have different outcomes based on
their environment and social system
● An outcome that’s different from what you were hoping for
doesn’t necessarily mean the intervention didn’t work
Competency 9
9.3 Critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate intervention
and program processes and outcomes.

● Analyze by using research and critical thinking skills to

determine whether the intervention worked, and by how
much
● As the intervention is happening, constantly check the
progress, and see what’s working and what’s not working
● Evaluate the intervention by assessing the different
aspects, and whether or not it worked
COMPETENCY 9
9.4 Apply evaluation findings to improve practice
effectiveness at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels.

● Use what you learned to make the next intervention even

better.
● We should always be striving for growth
● How can the effectiveness of this intervention be
improved at all levels of social work?
